Recondition a guitar

Hi all,
Does anyone know a place to 'repair' or to be exact, recondition a guitar ? I have a very old strat which I bought around 20 years ago, and it collected dust for the last 11 years due to inactivity. Seems I may have to replace lots of electrical parts, wiring, (plus the strings). Any recommendation ?

Thanks.

Dave

you will definitely need to remove the strings right away then start with a metal polish for the frets and a contact cleaner for the pots to see if it will still function or be without scratchy noise. pickguard screws are easy to be replaced just be careful in taking it out. Post a pic of your guitar to see more of what needs to be done with it

you can look around Excelsior's basement, there are tons of stores there. TY Music Center, Sound Alchemy, SV Guitars and Music Theme did really cool set ups + "reconditioning" for my totally trashed up guitars.

Sound Alchemy did make my breaking Epiphone LP Custom play like as though its brand new (y).
SV and TYMusic has a lot of their hardwares/electronics on display so you can go to those guys too!

OR you can follow skwidbol and D.I.Y

I'd be more concerned about the neck if I were you. popping frets and an out of shape neck are common problems with guitars that have been tucked away for a while.

next question would be, would it be worth to set the guitar up? that depends on the sound and brand (in a practical POV). full set up can easily cost you more than $100 if you consider having an electronics overhaul.

Thank you all for your feedbacks. Really appreciate it.

I'll bring it to Excelsior in the near future. I did examine the neck, fret and they look ok so far.

Economically, it may not be worthed after all to recondition it, but there's a sentimental value of that guitar :D. That's the first guitar I had, and the longest one... plus I brought it for some perfomances back in the uni day. Kind of emo guitar to me. haha....

Thanks again.

you can check out malcolm if you love your guitar that much. i haven't brought any guitar to him personally but everyone says he's the best. just be prepared to cough out a bit more though.

I'm sorry, who is Malcolm ? Pardon my unfamiliarity with the store/people here....
