hi guys! i like jazz n was thinking what kinda crashes/rides would u guys reccommend n it can b bought in sg. hopefully those versatile ones. i've been listening to sites from zildjian,sabian,paiste,bosphorous...etc. please comment!! Free For All!! :D

hmm yeah i know but any idea where to get bosphorous? i can only think of 2nd hand but most ppl seems to favour sabian . and K custom are kinda ex right? i like K custom dark but i rmb its quite exp n not easily found :(

bosphoros - is excellant i use them. i got a 22inch trad thin ride. love it.

the K customs i love as well but their an arm and a leg

yeah accent music sells their bosphorus at affordable rates...

i really like the 22" or 20" K constantinople light ride at ps.. but it's going for 700 +....

whao so i supposed bosphorous is the most suited for jazz? was thinking if turkish cymbals theres any suitable ones. heard alvin is giving a 25% discount for softies at music lab. that would greatly cut my costs man. :D

Give both Bosphorous and Turkish a try. Pop by the stores and try them out to hear it for yourself first. Let your ears be the judge :)

I just been thru this experience last week...spend hours listening to both Bosphorus and Turkish, and got myself bosphorous 14" HH, and turkish 20"ride,16"crash and 8"splash....all for less than $800..the lesson I've learn from spending not less than 5 hours cymbal testing is that....you got to hear it yourself and like the sound you are hearing and at the same time imagine how you would apply the sound in your music.....

this is just my experience last week...hope it help
BTW, I also love Jazz music...especially those transparance crispy cymbal sound

Happy cymba hunting....so prepare to spend hours is you dont want to regrets after bring it home

hey betterstartlatethannever that was a cool trip i supposed. spending 5+ hours tipping n banging cymbals trying out what suits ur needs? whao i guess this is what everyone gotta go thru uh? ^_^"

it's all about what u need and not how cheap it is... turkish and bosphorus are value for money but buy what u like... and not what u don't like...

turkish cymbals are great and have versatile ranges too... but give bos a try.. in the end, u be the judge of what cymbal ur gonna get mate.

I know K's and K customs are expensive esp from local stores but if you have a chance to buy it cheaper online or 2nd hand, do check out the 21" K custom special dry ride or the 22" K constantinopoles for really dark sounds. Or if you want some thing more versatile, check out the K custom medium or dark rides (which imo are slightly brighter than the K's)

Good luck with your purchase! :D

Hi zizio,
you can address me as BSLTN (I see that you type my long name instead of cut-and-paste...must be quite tough..ha..ha..)

yea...5+hours, my wife had to excuse herself after 1 hours...ha..ha..ha.. she is wondering what am I doing...there goes my second opinion...

I think you can spend less time if you go by elimination rules, meaning after testing each cymbal and you dont feel excited about the sound then just take that out from your option and go to the next, after short listing a few then spend more time testing them again to see which ones you like most, if out of so many you only like one or none, just get that one or none...cymbal is expensive and consider investment, so you dont want to anyhow buy like you have no choice...coz you do, just need to spend the time listening..I guess

( A Little Bias Here )...cause I'm a Paiste guy, but some facts remain true.

The Paiste NEW Signature Series is pretty good for Jazz & Fusion - The Dark Energy Mark I Hats and it's 21" Dry Dark Ride - very nice sounding.

Bosphorus offers more Range in terms of Sound for Jazz (which is true) and are Value for Money.

There is also one particular Range in Turkish - very nice sounding (I like it), but dunno the range - also good for Jazz and I would say versatile.

But: - If I am asked to choose only one-particular range for Jazz Cymbals (say money no problem) - I will pick Zildjian K Constantinople for Jazz - they are nice.eeeeeeeeeee.

depending on what type of sound you prefer....if you prefer Zildjian & Paiste - then wah got to spend more $$$$$, if your taste is Bosphorus & Turkish - you save alot - but they are nice just different....

oh yeah remember, when testing out there are so many factors to look at so be sure ur aware of it by reading many cymbal facts on the net..

haha yeap i've been reading a lot on the cymbals. and more importantly been listening to e sound files attached to each cymbal. its always pricy cymbal that sound awesome :( guess i gotta save up tons b4 i can buy a good 1. buying only decent cymbal is kinda pointless man. 1 X good one is shiok~K custom dark!! ^_^

u might find that some of what zildjians u need is not always on stock at yamaha PS or yamaha outlets and have to wait at least 1 year for stocks to come...

the best is to custom order and take shorter time....

sabians are good too man.

yeap i agree with u. i had thought of online orders from overseas but the risk involved is simply too big. so now im just hoping my friend whos going to america for a holiday can get K custom dark for me. other than that no one is willing to let go of such a good stuff currently. money is another issue too. bleah~ tough to have good stuff in spore man.
