Recommended acoustic guitar for female beginner?

Hey,

what's the recommended acoustic guitar for a beginner? Especially for girls? like smaller build, slimmer etc.
most guitars i've tried are heavy to carry, cant imagine lugging them around.

thanks

You can go to Novelty Music, at the basement of Paradiz Centre. I saw a number of dreadnought acoustics with very thin bodies and a pickup installed. Basically they're semi-acoustics but they are definitely nice and compact. Between $250 and $300 if I remember correctly. I was there just today!

You could also source around for Yamaha APX series semi-acoustics..

3/4 body? That is unless you're really really small-sized. Maestro is a good choice for guitars or you could try Blueridge. What is your budget? Yamaha also carries nice acoustics at a reasonable price.

Hmm ok $250-300 seems kinda steep for a beginner. Or should i expect this price range everywhere? If so den i guess i don't have much of a choice.

Thanks. I'll definitely check it out :)

Maestro are at Excelsior and at Esplanade Mall. Their SA-1 and SD-1 are under $300 if im not mistaken.

Edit:
In the range of $300 are not that expensive. Any cheaper quality would be an issue.

Lower than $300 would not get you anywhere with the quality of the acoustics and in time you may find that you actually are discouraged from learning to play due to the insane difficulty of playing on a lousy quality acoustic guitar. Get a Yamaha! The F700 series is pretty good.. but may be a bit out of your budget.

Most importantly you have to like the guitar and how it feels, a cheaper guitar does not necessarily mean it is lower quality.

yea I definitely don't mind spending more if it's good quality. haven't really set a budget, but $300 around there is ok for me.

Anything else i should look out for? or any accessories?

my sister owns a Maestro SD-1.
it costs $190 from Novelty Music located at Park Lane shopping mall.
in my opinion, i think it's a pretty decent entry level acoustic guitar. it does not have a pre-amp though.
the sound pretty nice for it's price.
u can check them out. ;)
i would also recommend Jack & Danny Brothers acoustic guitars which can be found also at Novelty music as well as Ranking Sports at Bras Besar.
not sure abt the price but they do look really nice. should be less than $300.

accessories wise would be a chromatic tuner and a good capo. =)
AND PICKS !

ok cool. now im spoilt for choice. haha. ok i'll head down to Maestro and Novelty Music, check out what's there.

Thanks :)

I second gjtaylor on his recommendation of Jack & Danny at Ranking Sports, Bras Basah. Bought it for a friend before, it sounds decent enough and the build is just nice for her. Good luck in your find :)

i saw one takamine, smaller in size at Davis Guitar. It was put on display below the LTD guitars. Going for $200 or 300+ i think...

davis( http://www.davisguitar.com/ ) is at peninsular shopping center basement, maestro http://www.maestroguitars.com/ is at excelsior hotel basement(linked to penin shop ctr, u can one from the other!) and also inside esplanade opposite...gelare? or haagen daz?

btw im looking for one too. quite similar budget. kehkeh. but definitely spoilt for choice. the only requirement? low string action. dont care brand or whatever.

fan of olegunnarsolksjaer? haha. babyface assasin

Maestro guitars would actually really make a good choice...i've tried their standard series plus the action of the guitar is superb...very easy and gentle on the fingers...please don't buy a classical cause it's very different from the folk guitar that everyone here is actually talking about. Also if you want to buy a guitar...don't just look at it short term....think of it as a long time investment. Don't just think of getting a cheap guitar...but think of getting a good guitar...the price range at maestro is also value for money...the sound of their guitars, i believe, is too good for the price they are offering...you should really consider maestro guitars....

Haha ok cool. seems like everyone's recommending Maestro. top choice den. when are you getting yours? my fingers' itching, i'll prob get mine next wk. haha.

And yup Red Devils fan. Solskjaer's my fave. best sub ever man. haha. too bad hes retired :(

yup. maestro does manufacture amazing guitars.
their below $200 models are easily the $300+ models of other brands in my opinion.
but most importantly, they sound real good. i would say maestro guitars are under priced to be honest.

$300 and above slightly can easily get u a nice solid top guitar with beautiful sound from maestro. =)
a good budget range if u intend to get a maestro.
i say, go for it !

=D

ok i see theres alot of Maestro fans here. haha. Yup you guys have definitely convinced me to get Maestro. I'll head down next week.

Any recommended model? Built-wise, for someone whos small. I've been mistaken for a pri sch kid (even tho im years older). It'll be good to get one that's compact and easy for me to hold.

i strongly recommend the elite series but if you're under a tight buget...i recomend getting a SD2 or a SA3...my personal fav is the equator tho...

SD-2 = $259 w/o bag 279 with bag plus 3 months warranty(Laminated spruce top and ovangkol back and sides)
SA-3 = $299 w/o bag $319 with bag plus 3 months warranty(Laminated spruce top and roodwood back and sides)

Go and test it out...it's better to go on a week day tho...
