Recommendation on pickups.

Any recommendations on pickups?? Preferably to have a more rock or metal sound. I have a ESP LTD F-50, Marshall Amp MG series, and a Jackhammer JH-1 pedal.

haha hi bro u'll wan to stick with ur stock pups and invest on other better gear. trust me

you shouldn't rely on the pick-ups to get your sound.

you should get better pedals.

pedals does more effect to your sound rather than the pick-ups.

but if you really want to change your pick-ups,

i say go with the EMG 85 and EMG 81

Eh, pickups matter. In a way they do i guess. But a distort/metal pedal from boss would be better. Or just hang around buy/sell efx. There's bound to be good pedals popping up. And some are cheaper+can use for all your guitars.

Oh ok, my pickups are dual humbuckers. The JH-1 is distortion and overdrive together. For rock or metal, I should get 1 more distortion or metal pedal?

the most prudent move would be to upgrade your amplifier first; a $5K guitar with the most boutique pedals & PUs would be futile investment if you still plug into a small practice amp...

@subversion: O: Marshall MG series is decent. Not fantastic. But it should suffice, especially the higher end ones. Like the MG50 and MG100.

@xunister: Get a metal end king. Biyang metal end king. If you wanna do metal music.

i like the new generation of MG series, in fact... i bought one yesterday...

if you think a pickup swap might do your tone some good, then go ahead. if you have friends with guitars sporting some preferred name pickups, let them plug into your amp to hear if there are any marked appeal.

i'm not trying to stamp superiority in terms of amp size or the likes but i used to hate the tone of my Ibanez RG560 sporting a set of DiMarzio pickups until i realized my Peavey Rage 158 was the account for this repulsion. That amp is history by the way... 8-)

Hmm. DiMarzios are good! I guess some pups are very reliable like Seymour, EMGs and DiMarzios. It's a matter of which one. Although i would recommend playing around with the guitar, seeing if it suits you. Pickup replacement is expensive. Expensive risk to take.

Haha, I guess I'll buy another pedal. Do you have any slightest idea where to get an emulated headphone? My headphone is ATH-SJ3, which can't fit into the plugin at the amp. Any place to buy those plugins and can fit normal headphone?

your set up is pretty much enough bro. maybe you should tweak your settings more. maybe get another overdrive pedal to kick the jackhammer to higher gain if you wanna. how do you set it?

dont really resort to changing pickups when i dont get the right sound, i just sit and tweak tweak and tweak.

also what makes you want to change pickups? is it because it sounds muddy? riffing and fast palm muting sounds muffled?

The buzzing sound is irritating =.=ll, I guess I added too much gain to it. What is the setting for metal or rock? I just turn all the knobs to 10. =.=ll There is bass, treble, contour and frequency dependent damping.

whoaaa chill bro dont chiong everything to 10. start with everything from centre position first, then play with it.
i never had that pedal before so i cant give you any settings. but from what i heard in demos its quite a decent distortion pedal.

the pedal come with any manual?
