Recommendation of guitar.

Hi all
I am wanting to buy a new guitar but i have some trouble in choosing guitars. Hence i hope you could help me by recommending me some brands as im still quite a beginner in this. Budget is abt $500-700. Im more into fingerstyle playing.
I hv heard abt taylor and martins but with my budget i can only get the cheap models like big baby. Are they good?
Thank you very much! :)

Yes, the Taylor Big Baby is a good guitar for its size. But it's still not a full-sized dreadnought.

Personally, I believe Taylors and Martins are awesome guitars, but they are also expensive and you can get guitars that are almost as good, just as good, or perhaps even better, for less money.

I've tried and liked Maestro, Simon & Patrick, Walden, Crafter, Cort, Tanglewood and Ibanez Artwood guitars. You can give those a try. Just note that Taylors tend to be well setup straight from the factory, whereas your average Ibanez or Crafter hasn't been setup upon arrival at the shop so they don't play as nice. But with a good setup (which any guitar shop should be able to do), they can be comparable or even better.

Do consider a parlour, OM or OOO size guitar for fingerstyle playing. Some dreadnoughts and grand auditoriums can do it well too but they excel at other areas like heavy strumming. Personally I do a bit of everything so I prefer a dreadnought or grand auditorium.

Do pm me if you would like to know more about acoustic guitars, I might be able to help you find the right one..

You can consider a PRS SE Angelus Custom
These are pretty bang for the buck and within your budget.

very well made, i bought the custom recently at Davis during a sale not too long ago.
No Regrets.

@junkiemanxl How much did that set you back?

i bought this piece from davis at $699 during the sale if i'm not mistaken.
this is the custom model with ebony fretboard and i think the standard models with rosewood fretboards are much cheaper. Both versions come with birds.

This is the model without pickups. with pickups version can set u back another $400+ or so.
IMO, just get a set of LR baggs pickups and have them installed. I installed a set of LR Baggs Lyric and it sounds good without major wood work.

Thanks people! I got a big baby anyway. The bigger problem is that the D string is buzzing. Perhaps has to get it to get a setup. Any good recommendations for setup? Cheaper would be btr as i spent alot on it! Thanks!.

If its a truss rod issue, a spot of self-adjustment will be more than sufficient. Important thing to note is that the neck will take a few days to fully adjust to its new position (especially new guitars); so it will be a time-consuming process to get the action right.

If its an issue of uneven frets, you're not going to get cheap service because it requires skill and time. Try Jarvis or Raymond (LutherMusic).
