Recommendation for delay pedal...

Hi guys! I'm looking for one with tap tempo and not too digital sounding delay. My budget is around $200 - $300. I would appreciate your suggestions thanks!

you could try the tc electronic flashback delay. doesnt have tap tempo but has strum tempo. sounds great from the demos ive heard. can do U2 edge stuff(dotted eight delays) too haha

Nova Repeater, M5, DD-7 with external tap, DD-20 are all quality delays. 'Digital' sounding delays can always be tweaked in the form of the tone knob on the delay pedal.

Go for either of the two "standards" - Boss DD-20 or Line 6 DL4. There are many comparisons of both on this site and all around the web if you need more info, but in my opinion the quick breakdown is:
- DD-20 - easier to get basic digital delay sounds, LCD display, can be used as weapon in case of zombie apocalypse;
- DL4 - nicer analog/tape modes and looper, but footswitches less durable.

I would expect to pay around $220-240 for one depending on condition, and both have consistently good resale value, so it's a no-risk investment.

Also, since you said "not too digital sounding" I assume you have pretty realistic expectations about 'analog' and 'tape' tones, but one additional trick to make digital delays sound better (to me) is to put a little light gain overdrive or preamp with a bit of character after the delay.

Lols rofl-ed at this. But true kinda reminds me of l4d2 defib n hmm is dd-20 tht good? Wanted to buy it years ago but no money thought by now would have something new n better but I'll definitely try it and godspeed64 sry for asking such a noobish qn what's m5?

M5 refers to Line 6 M5. It's very good for covering all basic delays/reverbs/modulations - sort of a swiss army knife.

Sure there are a lot of new and fantastic technology in the many years since the DD-20, but I think it's still a great way to start. And like I mentioned, it has good resale value. So after you familiarise yourself with it, then you can have a clearer idea of what to look for in some of the newer / higher end delays.

Personally I like the MXR Carbon Copy. Nothing as fancy as TC's flashback though. Nice and simple.

Did you even read the original post? The CC is a nice analog delay (though IMO superseded by the Malekko 616 at the same price), but OP wants tap tempo.

CC does indeed sound good and undeniably lush. But no tap!

I'd say go for the DD-20 or Repeater in that price range! If you like modulated delay I was somewhat disappointed by the Line 6 algorithms (save for the lo-fi mode).

If you want one that's not too digital sound at your price range that would be the TC Electronic Flashback. I can do tape and analog sims pretty well. However, it only has strum tempo and not tap tempo. The MXR Carbon Copy is indeed quite good for its price too but you won't be able to do those U2 kind of delays without any tap tempo of sorts.

Otherwise I do have a IB Modified Nova Delay for sale at $300 which has pristine clean delay (helps it cut through the mix better) and presets and tap tempo. A lot of professional guitarists use Boss DD-20 or Nova Delays too. Other than that, it's going to be much more expensive for the better delays like a Deluxe Memory Man with tap tempmo, T-rex replica or Providence Chrono Delay etc.
