Recommend midi controller for overseas travel

Prefereably full-featured so that I can still make music in hotel rooms, etc.
Is M-Audio the only choice out there ?

Yep making music via notebook. Probably 61 keys at least?
Hmmm... it'll be nice to have some control over the sequencer. Stuff like start stop recording... control the volume envelope live? I use Sonar Home Studio 6, if it helps?

61 keys ain't going to be easy to lug around. Something 25 or 37 keys might be better? The Novation Remote SL 25 looks really good.

.

If you have a tight budget, I think the keyrig 25 would be cool too, if you don't mind the limited keys and the shallow feel of the keyboard. it's very light and slim, good for travelling...

Ask you guys, let's say I get a keyrig 49, will I be able to control my volume envelopes within sonar with it live? That is one thing I would like to do (that I can't with my yamaha psr-260).

All midi controllers can control volume parameters. Yamaha PSR is not a standard midi controller (particularly the lower-end ones).

Cool.. that means I can play back my song, assign the knob to the strings track, hit the record button and vary the volume envelope as I wish and it'll be recorded?

Midi keys for travel

Novation's Remote SL is to die for. They costs more due to Automap, semi-weighted keys and after touch with software compatibility for more complex DAWS like ProTools. I lug my M-Audio Oxygen when I travel. 25 keys is more than enough if its just for midi control on the run for I only have 10 fingers. :) I still enjoy my Kontrol49 when composing. KORG has good backup support with reliable software editors with ready made template for various programs. The 8 sliders can easily be programmed as mix faders (ie mixer) and rotaries as pot faders or FX tweak knobs. The Change Scene button instantly change templates of these these knobs. I particularly like the 16 velocity trigger pads for drums but they can also multi task. They're one of earliest adopters with Vista if you're on a PC which means good back support for future wares. Video. Smaller version of it will be the MicroKontrol which they no longer make.

Nah the korg is a bit too expensive... I'll be going off for 6 mths at the new place so I prob need at least 49 keys to play some piano.
Probably at my price pt it's between the M-Audio and the EMU offerings. Anyone here used the Creative stuff before?
