dont get yamaha, its super rip off... their products are good, but overpriced for their standards...

i suggest u ask ur fren to get a set during a sweelee sale, with his budget he can get quite a decent setup from the end of the year sale, pearl export? tama superstar custom? u get the either one at 50% off they shd be around 1k or a bit less

I agree with Nysk. Tell your friend. Wait for the sale. Take it easy, invest in a tent and sleeping bag then get in the queue. Get a few buds to come with you. I would suggest a pearl export or tama superstar and grab a sabian Xs20 pack set while you're doing that. Don't fancy the gretsh catalinas... sound very....eh...not very nice.
Try exploring other sets as well. Like Premier or Peace.

I dun know, at the same level, everything sounds almost adequately competitive. I think 1k isn't enuff to buy a Yamaha Stage Custom brand new, but maybe you can chk out the 2nd hand market. And why go for stock cymbals, they are really crappy!!!

yup dont waste your money on things just cause they are cheap. you'll end up spending more.
