totally new to guitar...but wanna try learn sumthing new... think i can maintain my interest for a long time so im looking for a package tht is above average...better amp and guitar etc... any recommendation? i saw this bc rich package in davis... dude in the shop said its more expensive than the sx packages cuz of its better amp...

BC Rich is quite popular for their WARLOCK design. SX offers the worst practise amp ever. I think its better for you to get a package with a good recognised guitar amp. If i am not wrong Squire starter sets are inclusive of Fender frontman 15's (might be wrong). Fender frontman has one of the best cleans for its price range although its distortion isnt convincing.

If you want your guitar to feel good and sound good , best buy would be a LTD if you can spend about $400. For a good practise amp the Roland cube15will be surely enough for most needs. Total sum will be around 800 if you include a new padded bag( stock bags suck ), cables , tuner , strap.
Playing a guitar isnt exactly a cheap hobby/activity so 800 is considered fair for a decent beginner set up.

Probably combo a Roland Cube and a Squier will be a good deal. the Roland is good, and the Squier is quite okay. Of course, other guitars like Timbre and SX are good but their amp is not exactly what u need.

I'd recommend Timbre SR-200... It's a Stratocaster copy I've played before quite a long time back. I recommend it. If you get the one in red, you'll get a maple fretboard to go with it. :)

The Smash guitars (made by Swing guitars) are also pretty good. There's a review for the S2 model in the reviews section of this forum. I've yet to try it out yet though...

Both of these are Stratocaster copies, but I'd say the S2 is more versatile because it has both humbuckers and singlecoils (different types of pickups. More variety of tone). I think if you're a beginner you should get something versatile to start you off, because you'll get to know over time what your personal preferences are.

budget around 300-400...around there... kinda small budget haha... yea..
nt too keen abt timbre or swing cuz i got an unexplianable dislike for strat copies haha...and mainly cuz i lazy to go all the way to standard value... lik so ulu...

What kind of design are you looking for? If you're looking for something original, I'd recommend LTD guitars, shouldn't be a problem with your budget, and the 50 series guitars, despite being around the lowest-end, are very well-made from my experience. They're at Davis Guitar @ Peninsula Plaza.

is tht part of a package or juz the guitar only??

Best starter pack I've kept hearing of is the Epiphone Les Paul Special II starter pack. I myself own an Epi LP Special II and I've been using it for 4 years now and all I can tell you is that, it is top notch. You should get it. Highly recommended

hellpiggy: LTD 50 series are standalone. Just the guitar and the softcase. LTD 10 series come in a package with the amplifier, cable and softcase, and some other small stuff like picks and a strap. Haven't personally tried the 10 series though, but my impression of LTDs is generally good.

ierfan: Epiphones seem to have a rather bad reputation here.. Surprisingly, I've played several Epiphones and they were all very nice if you ask me.. Tonewise perhaps cannot judge because of the amplifiers and E.Q.ing but quality-wise I thought they were definitely good. So yeah, to hellpiggy, Epiphone can be considered too.

LTD guitars package! ok la actually like any shop also can package anything. just buy everything in one shop, then bargain. usually like that, they see beginner buy lower end guitar, they ask you want buy amp also then get cheaper.

for amps : try digital amps roland cube 30 watt , or analogue amps ibanez amps TBX 30 - its has a nice deep warm tone and nice distortion even though it has 10" speaker
for guitar : Ltd is good... or u can consider buying a second product ibanez pgm (i got 1 around $400) or a 2nd product fender strat around '90 which still have lacesensor pickups (around $400-450)

epiphone LP's...they sound quite muddy to me. given the price of epiphones currently, u can get a better copy elsewhere.

SX's....dont even think about getting it ..

ibanez....dont get GRG/GIO series.....

LTD...No comment..never try b4. however, they're a reputable brand under ESP..so i'd trust them..

And honestly, if i were you, i wouldnt want to go for any package.
I'd just get a 2nd hand guitar or mid-level entry guitar..with roland cube 30.

Timbre..Squier...Smash..are all good guitars. okay enuff said..i think u have enough recommendations/suggestions from these softies already...

Arai electric guitar package. S$220.
SSS std Strat type guitar, 10w amp with OD switch.
Smooth transfer from Clean to OD tone. Quite loud for a 10w actually.
Includes Bag, strap, picks etc & instruction DVD for maintenance & some simple songs.

Great value for a shared present to my nephew. he's been playing everyday. @ Ranking sports & music.

get a smash guitar man, single and humbuckers! good deal definitely! epiphones are generally ok, its just of their Q.C that scares the sh*t outta people! get something that you have a good 'feel' for, its you whose playing, so you should like what you gonna get! yeah the roland cube is a definite yes!

not all epihone curved top model is good ... the top is not maple.. its a veneer.. my friend got his epiphone LP repaint.. the top wood is a low grade wood , and the maple figure is just a veneer :(
