Hi guys. Anyone able to recommend a decent guitar with budget of $200-$250 +/-?

with most decent tune/quality. plan to buy it soon, at peninsular plaza.

Went TYMusic(Was recommended a guitar below $200, made in UK) and Music Theme(Was recommended some MIC guitar range $180-$299) that day but was advised to do more homework first so now seeking some opinions here.

Thanks!!

I would get a squier! If I am correct SV guitars sells a model at $199. You can't go wrong with Squier, such a great brand both bass and guitar. Other then that.. craftsman or ... okay my mind blank liao just woke up haha. But yeah definitely the Squier!

Hi thanks for suggestion will keep in mind.

Bump for more suggestions! And forgot to mention it will be an acoustic guitar.

Custom Acoustic from Citymusic definitely should be an option. Great tone you can get solid wood at your price point, pretty much a rarity amongst other brands.
I'd personally say maestro secondhand if you can up your budget slightly. I personally have a maestro elite series (got it firsthand) and it's superb.
Fina is another consideration. They make some quite good guitars, if you can get these secondhand here on soft that'd be better.
Yup TYMC has Tanglewood acoustics which are value for money. All in all, just go and try all yourself. See which you like best.
BTW i think you can't find a made in UK guitar under 200... just saying. Unless they use cardboard.

Edit: i just saw you wanted to buy first hand. Personally i think it'd be more worth it to buy secondhand just in case your interest does not take off, you can sell it to break even/slight loss. However first hand, you gonna lose a lot of $. And bring along an experienced friend with you whether first or secondhand. I've seen some shops, new guitars in worse condition than from those i bought secondhand.

i'll 2nd custom acoustic from citymusic. it's best you try each individual models out within the price range and pick the one that sounds and feels best to you. must be buay pai seh and try everything!

Aiyo never say acoustic haha... If I remember correctly you can get the lowest end model of Maestro? Very popular I think its around $250?

If you want an acoustic guitar, Maestro is good.

Or if you want an alternative, Custom Guitar at City Music is good too. My first acoustic guitar was from Maestro. Back then the salesman was very friendly. The last time I went to the store which was a year ago to help my friend get a guitar, the shopkeepers don't give a flying f- who walked in. Maybe sales person changed so you can drop by there. But when I bought my guitar, the salesman was ultra helpful.

Edit:
Forgot to mention price. Mine was an SD series or something, cost about $250.

JapxMetal, WereWolfboy, Jellybean, RayKnight: Thanks to all the valuable suggestions!! Very helpful. So i will be likely to make a trip down to City Music and Maestro to test out the guitars.

Thanks!

No prob! Enjoy your new guitar and be patient in learning! Don't later I see one month later a maestro or Custom pop up in the classifieds haha

Like what some of them say, must try...Size is also something you might want to consider if you travel ard for lessons a lot since you are a beginner?

As for me, theres can only be a Takamine...:)

IMO get a cheap one. If u love playing guitar then advance to a better one later. Many of my friends bought a expensive one then later stopped playing. :)

Agree with arnold, get a cheap guitar and advance to a better one when you're sure. However, don't go so cheap until it's crap, as it'll kill your interest without even letting you experience how playing guitar is really meant to be like. $200 should be your starting point for brand-new guitars.

I've been a bit out of touch lately, so hopefully what I say is still true. Anyway, the Yamaha F310 is my top choice if you're on a tight budget. Dirt-cheap especially if you buy it secondhand, but I've got an old one and it's super-playable. I love the V-profile neck and the tone is not bad at all, surprisingly nice for a guitar made out of meranti plywood. Build quality is superb - it's lightweight and durable at the same time. And good tuning pegs that make it easy to tune.

The best bet has always been a Yamaha Pacifica. One of those 112 models would be just as fantastic as what you may need. It is an excellent electric guitar for Rookie Musicians and sounds like a Professional's Axe if you are about to Rock too. Salute!

2nd hand guitars or cheap guitars (100-200) are your best pick. Who knows your passion might be a 3 minute hotness thing, but dont go getting those in the 60 dollar range as they might be very bad and you'll not be enjoying playing your guitar

EG. the action might have been set too high, poor intonation etc, these will all affect you and u might just lose interest because of the lousy playability of your guitar.

try looking up on yamaha, tgm, kapok for some well known brands

dove b-410, kepma d1c are excellent starters too if brand isnt a concern to you.
