Recommend a Good practise amp

Hi

I'm looking to get a practise map with a budget of $200-$250 max

The peavey i'm using now is almost 10yrs old and starting to get cranky.

Wat would you recommend?

I have played on my friend's Marshall MG15-CDR and I prefer it over my old Crate GX-15R for a practice amp. You may want to try it out, I think its available at Luthermusic.

What sort of features you are looking in this practice amp(efx loop? 2 channels? tube? tube preamp only? or speaker type, 8, 10 or 12 inch? etc)

Want brand new or dont mind used?

Actually a 8-10' is good enough. No preference with tube ambs. Since i do most of my practising at night, i can't blast my amp.

Used or brand new i'm fine with both. But it needs to have a good clean sound and beefy overdrive.

Thanks

Check out the Behringer GM 110.

If my memory serves me right, it has a 10" Jensen speaker, 30 watt rating. Lotsa Amp / Cabinet Emulation. Marshalls, Fender, Boogie.

It's a clone of the TradeMark 10 amp. check out the reviews on harmony-central

It has a pretty compressed sound (full sounding) cos it tries to emulate a tube's heavier compression. You can get it for around S$210. Not sure if they have the stocks already. You can call Behringer Singapore holdings and ask for numbers of their distributors.

I'm also wanting to buy this amp very much. but was outta stock for a very long time.

Cheers

Try and get the Kustom 12W. After you change the tubes to a better brand, it's a good practise amp. Quite a few of my friends recce it.

the Behringer GM 110 seem a good choice for a beefy OD/distortion. Shud be a good choice to check it out if its in stocK.

For the kustom tube thingy, personally, imho, i find that most amp with tube preamp and ss drive channel is just another way to sell more amp or to attract ppl. In term of tone wise, the differences can be very small at times and with a bit of EQing, the tube preamp might not sound a big different to a all solidstate amp. My o.o2cent

In the end, guess that one will have to try out the amp in store first, to gather the differences before buying the new amp. No advise is better than hearing it youself and let your ear decide

I'll be getting myself a Vox 15W Pathfinder amp soon. Tried it at City Music and it's sounds more powerful than it is rated. Very good clean sounds. Priced at $184, it's pretty good value with a reverb dial, a Line Out and an Input jack for connection to external speakers.

Did you try out any Brian May Combo or something like that? 10 Watts white in colour. I think it got a editors choice in one of the mags few mths back.

I did try the Brian May model but the sound isn't great. Partially because it's only 10W and it's modelled on Brian May's orginal DIY model which is rather crude if you have seen it before.

Hi.. i am thinking of getting a 10w Amp for home practise.

Anyone out there who is using this Marshall 10CD?
Is this a good amp in the 10W range amp?

Is there any 10w amp out there with EFX features?

I would recommend getting a 15W (or even Kustom 12W) amp for home practice as choices for 10W amps are not as many as there are for 15W amps.

Price-wise, there isn't a big difference between 10W and 15W. Plus, there are very few 15W with effects, let alone 10W amps with effects. Usually the only effects you'll find in most 15W amps are reverb and overdrive.

Lastly, the tone from most 10W amp aren't great. At least with some 15W amps (eg Ibanez Toneblaster 15), you can get decent tones.[/url]

full specs could be there...if u're someone looking for an amp with a variety of effects can try tt...

how about a roland cube 30? you can get a 30 watts, 10 inch speaker amp with efx and amp modelling all in one compact size cube... the clean sounds are very satisfying to me and its very much better than the marshall mg15cdr that i have as well...

as for distortion, i think the marshall wins... but i use the cube with pedals so it doesn't really affect me that much... it gives a very good sound overall... :D
