Fellow SOFTies and clubbers,

On sunday, 6th december 2008, I went to Rebel with a couple of friends.. It was supposed to be our third time there since Rebel opened.. We were all previous MOS members and VIPs etc so decided to stay true to our hangout place.. However, something very unexpected happened..

Upon arrival, we headed to the entrance and saw lots of people and commotion going on outside. As we approached nearer, we found out that Rebel was apparently refusing entries to malays..?? So in time, we heard that apparently ACS booked the place(this is yet to be confirmed, it is what we heard).

So, I approached the front desk and enquired.. His response was that the age limit had been changed to 25. That was very sudden and random and I could see so many chinese teens around the age of 19-20. The REBEL website(www.rebel.sg) clearly states that the age limit is 18.. I found this very disappointing considering the fact we were all members and mind you I'm not malay but the rest of my friends were so I really felt for them. So was that a coverup or pure racism? You decide..

Sincerely,
Ely

probably their main reason must be "mats created most of the fights in clubs" . MoMo has the same policy too.. but malays with tattoos are definitely not allowed and they are only allowed on vip list most of the time. Well its what i call stereotyping, as a malay myself it can be a good thing and a bad thing.

im not racist or anything but if they don't want malays to get in, then thats their personal choice and we gotta respect it no? :/

understand that people have the right to hate too..

racism is still a really dumb thing though, my mum is pretty 'racist' against foreign workers. I feel very uncomfortable whenever she talks about them.

that's completely stupid to blatantly disallow malays. what ever happened to the fact that Singapore is a "racial, harmonous society" for everyone?

I needn't recite the National Pledge of Singapore right here, since everyone knows that part.

Have u tried talking to the manager yet? If I were you I would demand an explaination at least

what?? thats disgusting. punishing a whole race for what a handful have done is terrible. unfortunately this happens in the world a whole lot.

Threadstarter, I suggest you write to the venue owner and update us with their reply. I will close this thread for now.
