re: Isolate them..

cannot believe shit bands can get gig slots and torment spectators like me with their rubbish..

already as it is, im having a hard time finding/forming a band.. when i go for gigs in the weekends, i envy the bands that get to perform their stuff..

but this is wat happens..

1) the singers always take a glass of drink

2) go up onto the stage

3) crack a racial joke at one of his band mates thru the mic and etc.....

4) go on and on about how the next song they're gonna be perform is so good and who/what the inspiration was..

5) and the song sounds like shit..

there is a disease in this forum and its lurking..

i might be infected too.. i hope not, but who's to say?

ever since i joined this forum, its been bullshit after bullshit.

i took leave from work just so i can learn songs by this band cos apparently, they kicked their drummer out and chose me only to have me kicked out and they took him back instead..

so many things i've done in my capacity, but these good for nothing individuals do nothing but sit on their asses and extend both their hands to receive..

apart from 3 fruitful jam sessions with 3 diff grps of pple, the rest were rubbish..

1) Breadtalk; solid guitarist from China.. very talented..

2) Lizardking; hell of a vocalist and guitarist..

3) Dickie; former guitarist of the now defunct band, Now Open..

how are we being brought up nowadays?

betrayal, lies, phoney talk, selfishness, late-coming..

when i post an ad in the musicians market, pple will call and 'yaya' over the phone..

give me a list of songs to learn, tell me they've been playing for 7 years, they have connections with gig organisers, plan to release album and eventually take over the world..

on top of that, they make me feel stupid when they ask me questions on my preferred genre(s), whether i can double bass like joey jordison and a whole lot of stupid questions..

don't get me wrong, it's ok to ask questions..

the thing is, over the phone, so yaya..

time to jam, my gdness, play rubbish, forget parts of the song, etc....

what is happening?

is there no silver lining at the end of it all?

sad..

i kinda felt you had something going with the first few lines but i think you lost me right after that dude.

Your main point?

well dude, maybe they're not that fond of the way you play? maybe if this is the case, u shud ask for opinions from people and practice more..

i tink it is easier to start a band with people around ur social circle.. if they make mistakes, u can scold them upside down  well jokingly, i mean..

of course bullshit will come out in forums lah. better the forums than straits times life!, the new paper or mtv. youtube... still OK

i didnt there were crap kids able to crap their shit on gigs.that is so waste of time for the people who came to watch.

krist bro: chill man, i get where you're coming from, but dont come all guns blazing. there are more ways than that to give us your reality check.

but you know its a valid argument - bands all HAVE to start somewhere. which means start out playing shit and then progressing slowly to a semi / professional musician level. but the onus shld be on the DGOs to filter out the bands that CAN and CANT play. bands are surely going to scoff at this stuff but the level of music will definitely improve. bands HAVE to be of a certain standard to play and "we're just starting out" isnt an excuse to give a lousy / poor performance. i think Fire Fight is one example of a band who really took it slow until they were ready to put their heads in the scene musically.

as much as the responsibility to provide good music to the audience belongs somewhat to the DGO, bands make the music, and making good music is well, nobody's responsibility but yours. dont be ignorant and keep thinking "ah they dont understand my music lah they dont support the local scene". if you do, youre an idiot. be open to comments / suggestions. improvement doesnt happen overnight (most of the time), but slowly it will. and if youre patient (like fire fight), things would look bright for you - the bands, the organisers, the audience and most importantly, our scene.

I like that part where Krist said, record album then take over the world...hahaha phuckingly hilarious! laughed out loud! really!

but yes, i have to say, Fire Fight's drummer is reely reely technically good..

was reely overwhelmed by his playing..

so far, these drummers have reely opened up my eyes alot..

a) Fire Fight's drummer..

b) Stabbing Drama's drummer..

wow, if i only can be as half as good both of them..

damn!

HMMM. How about forming your own band? You could do the weeding yourself and ensure that standards are up to yours! But it'll be kinda hard at the start assembling the pieces.
