hey its me again. wld just lke to ask.. is it necessary to step on the hi-hat pedal harder so that it'll sound "tighter" whn we hit it? or it doesnt matter? or is the pedal spoiled or sth? =X

your pedal aint spoilt. yes i usually use that in a 'verse' context. press the pedal down so that the hi hat will have a tight chick sound and not so ringy. maybe a little less on the pedal when you're approaching the chorus or something to have that distinct difference? a loose hihat (partially open) can be pretty annoying if it's played too much.

how're your yamaha lessons anyway?

rainedrop yes you have to close it tight...unless they ask you to open...then you open lah

you come to the meet-up when we organise ok - then Bros here will teach you the "Open/Close Technique"... bery bery useful one.Kekekeke :smt040

ok thanks! haha cos sometimes it just seems (to me) that the hi-hat rhythm is being played wrongly.. =S

my lessons are fine! =) quite ok with the pace and stuff. prolly cos i have some music theory background so its easier to catch the rhythms and wad the tr's saying =)

oh yah. what does a shaded triangle sign on the snare drum "space" mean? saw it in one of the basic rhythms and we're all wondering what it meant..

meet-up? which one? for wad?

raindrops... The "Triangle" on the snare line means......you play the snare using - "side-stick" - you know like those Bossanova Beat when people play - It's not a Rim-Shot har........

It's like 3/4 of the stick is within the snare area and the other 1/4 of the stick is outside the snare area....so you use your hand hold the stick, place it at the snare like that...when you hit it - it's not loud..you get a tak-tak kinda sound....Aiyoh I don't know how to explain it well but hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

is that boon gee u talking about the same tan boon kee that plays at Jazz at southbridge?

i belive ive heard him before. hes not that young right? abit ahpek looking leh.. xD

believe it or not the reason why i managed to remember the drummer and the pianist name is because the singer kept incorporating the names in the song.

tanboongee.... weixiong......... HURR..
i cant rmb the singer and the bassist name though.. but they are good.

hey heys. anyone care to share how u coordinate diff rhythms for diff parts (hi-hat, bass, snare etc)? im still quite new to drums so was wondering if u guys can give me some guidance? =X thnx a lot!

I'm sure all the Bros here would be most pleased to...Do come to our 2nd Drumming meet-up (Free & Easy)....Date & Venue to be affirm by this Friday....It's really nice meeting fellow Drummers & I did learn alot from them too....

hey RD, its me joshua. anyway just wanted to know how your j1 skin for ur snare sounds like. that day not much chance to test. the etched skins is more for toms one right?

rainedrop- the triangle can mean alot of stuff leh. best is to look for the legend which will say wat is wat. cause i've seen the triangle represent a cowbell or woodblock.
i wish i had a strong theory background man, life wld be so much easier.
