sorry for the late reply!

master well.. hmm. i guess pop songs. i sing more chinese songs than english now. i'm not v sure actually. fast songs, i tend to sound kinda flat. like all the same rhythm or is it tone? - until it sorta gets boring. yet slow songs, the same thing can happen too, but i guess it lacks feel, some other friends who've heard me complain that i sound suppressed.. I sorta get what they mean, like I didn't really put myself in and enjoy the song, but I can't seem to be able to. Any suggestions?

I agree with practice! Yup, i should really practice more right! originally, I thought of really going serious into singing and get into a band, but didn't manage to. Then my friend suggested to just sing for leisure, as a result, I kinda start giving up trying to improve anymore!

as for rhythm. I agree that i have quite a bit of problem with it. At first, I was really bad, until I went into guitar. But then as I sing with my own playing of chords, I tend to get very aware of the rhythm until it sounds not flowing anymore. Especially when my strumming pattern starts to become almost the same for every song. The same thing happens when I sing without music and step my foot to a beat. That means I should also practice more?

another thing i've always wanted to ask! is power good? how do you know if one person is suited to sing power songs? cos power can also be trained right? sorta like 萧敬腾/ 张韶涵 or fantasia.

I guess I should start pushing myself more... When I sound better, I guess I'll put a new recording here again! :)

Thanks for the encouragements again!

I don't quite understand what they meant by "sounding suppressed".. does that mean like, you're holding back vocally or something?

That depends on the genre and style ya wanna sing.. Logically, if you're singing stuff like fantasia or christina aguilera or michael bolton or rock music or any song style that requires some good belting power, than yeah power is definitely a plus.
It depends on your style really.. there are many artists that still go about doing great music but without powerful vocals..
They can definitely be trained, if you would prefer singing in that style and if it fits singing your preferred music. :)

Power can be trained .. and there's several schools of how to do it. I will recommend speech level singing of course, as it's worked best for me :) It uses a stable larynx and bridging to cover the singing range. Power there comes from increasing air pressure and vocal cord compression.

Then there's belting, where you raise your larynx to get a "bigger" sound. It's quite popular in broadway style musicals I believe. I'm not sure whether belting uses bridging or not.

I'm not so familiar with other methods (like the "curbing" in CVT, which is apparently what R&B singers often use). I don't think that gives you much power though, just the R&B voice, which is nice but never powerful.
