Okie folks, will appreciate ur thoughts on the above. i tried a Randall RG75G2 at sweelee the other day and couldn't tear myself away from it. admittedly, seems like its pretty much built for heavy/hard rock sounds. my other choice is a peavey XXL 212 combo. dun think sweelee has the randall RG100SC 212 combo otherwise i would put that on my list too.
anyways, pros/cons and if u have any other recommendations. am looking for a good S/S amp thash about it. wanted to get into the whole tube amp scene but figured i'd just save up and get meself a nice head sometime next yr. for now, a good s/s amp.... :)

If u want a good tobu amp modifier try the peavey transtube series, heard thay were th ebest tube emulation sound htere is aorund.

Seriously now,
If you just buying for now, so you can save up for something better, then how big an amp are you looking for? For gigging or practice? There's this dude trying to sell his Smarvo 40W for almost a month now. I've tried it and I don't really like it. But for $140 that there is serious value for money. The 100W Smarvo is not bad. Forgot the price. Can go try at ranking. But Smarvo this type bo miah one I not sure what the insides look like and how long it can last.

Or are you looking for something with some resale value?

Think we need more info before we reccomend you some to try out.

-Temperory or want to resell
-Tones (ok you said heavy/hardrock so this one's answered)

hey warlord - how much did u get the RG100SC for?? argh!!

Think my budget's about somewhere below $900. i don't gig, so mainly play at home, or to blast out loud when no one is around. heh.
won't be selling it if its good, most prob keep. yeah. thash about it. will use it for recording too every now and then at home. so kinda thot a 2 x 12 might be more fun to record and sound bigger too. and yep, think am a heavy/hard rock kinda guy la so will most prob be aiming for those sounds.
any recommendations u have apart from the above will be much appreciated. TIA! :)

Heavy gain amps I don't know much.

I would say for recording you might wanna get a modelling amp if you are gonna get solid state anyway, then you have more stuff to play with. My ears can't tell the difference in high gain tones. (But they do tell me they don't like the low gain models comapared to the real deal).

For recording purposes you don't need a 2x12. Cos your mic will only be pointing at one speaker.
Unless you are doing it in some experimental ways.

for recording purposes i will mostly be using my pod xt live. the amp is mostly for trying out diff mic positions. guess more shiok to play via real amp then thru pod la...keke.
