Sounds good dude. Hopefully you get the tone you want. Van_halen, in the Yamaha thread i believe he stated that he was open to other options too. What then is the matter about recommending Rallys? Even if he did not state it, i don't believe that it was wrong to do so. And in any case, he has heard for himself and what he likes is none of your business. Sure, go ahead and flame Rallys because they're 'lousy China copies'. I don't think it bothers those who actually like its tone. What you may have done is prevent others from hearing something that they may like at that price range.

in this thread he is open to other options too, so what's wrong with recommending that he not go with a crappy guitar? even if he didn't state it, i don't believe it was wrong to do so. and in any case, he wanted to go with yamaha and its none of your business so why you recommend inferior brand like rally? sure, go ahead and flame yamahas because they are not rallys (and will never be as inferior as rally). people who are tone deaf won't feel bothered about rallys' crappy tone. by recommending rally, what you may have done is prevent others from buying guitars which are actually well made.

For the kind of budget that one is paying for a Les Paul copy, I would highly also recommend a Rally. One of my bandmates has a Rally and it sounds pretty good in my book. Feels very much like how all Les Paul should feel.
What is more important is how the guitar actually connects and feels with the player himself. Tone is subjective to each individual plus a guitar is only 10 % of the tonal equation. Recommendations is one thing, trusting and judging your own feelings is of most importance.

I feel you guys should recommend what you like, state what you don't like about other brands subjectively. Don't bash brands simply cause one has a bad experience with their products. It could be a one-off thing, it could be a serious flaw in their QC. If you don't like it, don't buy. It's that simple.

I heard that the gold hardware on the GL-400 would wear away with time? Personally I'd rather the GL-300, but that's just me...

Anyway it's just gold-coloured plating. And I'm not stupid enough to expect solid gold, dude. I simply prefer to do without the gold-coloured plating, than have it wear away as I play.
