I think its a good idea, most of the other forums i frequent have the quick reply thing and its really convenient!

Soft the image should be like this

ussualy this quick reply/post thing were put below the (post reply) button,
it allows the users to instantly type on the quick reply thing, without going inside the (post reply), but quick reply doesnt have the emoticon thing and (post reply does have it) ... in my opinion its really usefull...

In some forums, the quick reply is there at the bottom of the page by default. You don't have to click anything...just type in the box and press submit.
