I've been playing acoustic guitars for almost a year...planning to switch to electric guitar...is it a totally brand new thing even have been playing acoustic guitar for almost a year?

And is the strings easier to fret/press than acoustic? cos acoustic must press quite hard...

Well, you cant really say its a different thing from acoustic to electric.. cause you can still play chords on it. To me, its just that electrics can get more sounds than acoustics as electrics can be plugged to an amp. and yup, strings are easier to press on an electric.

you don't need to press so hard because the sound will be amplified. there will be more frets to explore on an electric, even up to another octave on a 24-fretter. an electric guitar may also be more heavy, so if you intend to practice standing up, get a comfy strap :D

You can always ask people here in Soft.Im sure theres lots of them.Just post a thread regarding u wanna form a band and jam with and see what happens ;)

well, once you get used to the electric, its more or less the same as the acoustic, just that you have to use an amp. And it should be easier to fret, I had a pain playing an acoustic once and it was harderrr

I reckon the only major difference is Classical from elec or acoustic.
other than that they're both quite similar

Not much different, other than the fact that the strings on the electric guitar are easier to press down.Electric guitar will be heavier too, don't worry,if you have played 1 year of acoustic, its the same as playing 1 year of electric guitar :D

Speaking of weight,if you mind having a stone on your shoulder or lap while playing your guitar, do NOT get a les paul. That solid body guitar is heavier than normal guitars(depends on the make too) though the tone is much much rounder. And yeah, the transfer from acoustic to electric isn't like primary school to JC...You will be able to cope quite fast to it

Epiphones got les pauls which are chambered e.g. les paul ultra. Many gibsons are also chambered.. but the ballsy sound isn't there anymore...

Seriously? Dayyum, I still want that awesome tone! Any other altenatives rather than getting an old les paul so I can still have that tone?

to TS, i'd say that the transition from playing acoustic to electric isn't just about the frets being easier to press or the guitar being heavier to carry. i think genre matters too, and then you'd start your journey in collecting effects pedals (:
