Question for Toneport and Guitarport users

I am aware of devices such as Toneport and Guitarport, but from the posts here on SOFT, I get the impression that most of you plug the guitar direct to the Guitarport and use the effects on the Guitarport. Do any of you place stompboxes before the Guitarport? How does it sound like?

My intended setup: Guitar ->Stompboxes (like Tubescreamer, chorus etc) -> ? -> Mac (Garageband).

Hey, sorry to hijack, but I've got a question along the lines on the toneport.

Running the Monkey Compatibility test, It seems that my com's processor doesn't meet the requirements.
It requires pentium 4, and mine's only pentium 3..
How will this affect the usage? Will it slow down, lag, crash or anything? Can I still go ahead with a purchase?

Thanks!

hi well yea i do have another question, if i record a guitar through a microphone, meaning guitar - amp - mic (record what amp is playing) the waves from this recording appears to be larger than when you are using toneport etc etc, am i right?

will the wave size affect me? (lets say if i wanna eq the guitar later on)

reth : err pentium 3 not recommended to do recording. at most only a stereo track recording. i suggest you save a few hundred bucks for a basic p4. nowadays computers are cheap. I think $400-$500 can get you something you can record on PC. after getting one then go for a toneport. OR you can try buy the toneport first, then if it doesn't work, get a p4. be prepared for the worst hehe.

zenguan88 : actually i don't get what you mean by "larger" , louder maybe, that will rely on your levels/gain setting. but if you see the waves as in displayed on the audio editor "larger" , that isn't accurate. sometimes if that wave clips (hits 0db) , it doesn't mean the entire frequency range (low/mid/highs) is clipping, maybe it's just the mids or the highs. if you're going to EQ, record it at lower levels, then raise up the levels (db) later on.

30¢ worth.
