Punk Rock

Straight punk bands are like The Dead Kennedys and The Ramones.

I'm so sure that they are parallel to bands such as Anti-flag.

Recklessnick, there is a difference between glam rock and hair rock; glam metal and pop metal. However there isn't a difference between hardcore metal and metalcore. Your argument is quite twisted.

it is. i was joking around with pedialite.

and the terms punk and punk rock doesnt have a difference at all.
punk is automatically influenced by rock, any thing that consists of drums and guitars are influenced by rock. greenday, etc. are pop-punk, not punk rock. punk rock is a term only to refer to the music but punk can be referred to as the music, fashion, culture, attitude, etc.

to add to the confusion, can anyone enlighten me on the meaning and the freaking use of all the "cores" after a genre? like metalcore, grindcore, mathcore, chickencore, post-hardcore, screamocore, i-like-nasi-lemakcore... People think its cool or something to add a core at the end. makes them think theyre hardcore or something

How about, let's put it this way.

What bands do you consider punk-rock?

there are many different sub genres under punk rock
proto punk (mc5, stooges), 77's punk (sex pistols, stiff little fingers), pop punk (ramones, screeching weasel), oi! (sham 69, angelic upstarts), streetpunk, ska punk, hardcore punk, etc.

im just saying there isnt a difference between punk rock and punk referring to the music...

aiya ppl stop it with all these genre/labelling all lah....
stop with the wats punk and wats not....
most important thing is just enjoy the music!

no use talking all this shit here...diff ppl have diff opinions
when is it gonna end???

genres are made for a reason, to classify different types of music. they dont come up with a definition for punk rock and let people use their opinion and decide whats punk for themselves. if my opinion is metallica is punk rock would they be punk?
and no matter what you say, blink-182 and greenday is pop-punk, not punk rock. lol

Since there are subgenres under punk rock, and that includes pop punk. Then aren't you contradicting yourself a little here? You said punk rock is different from pop punk.

it is!

subgenres obviously have a different sound from a main genre right?

you cant say classical metal or death metal is the same as heavy metal, its under its category.

pop-punk is punk + pop (lol, the obvious)
