Punk

punk started out in the u.k in the early seventies as a movement tore volt against the system and the dressing, spikes and mohawks are all part of the attitude and culture of punks.
the early punk bands who started it were the exploited, crass, conflict, discharge, buzzcocks, the clash, the stooges, subhumans, chaos uk,ramones and misfits. they diffrent sub genres of punk, anarcho or crust punk-bands who play fast and kinda like thrash whose lyrics write on human rights, war, governments and politics. punk rock bands are normally more melodic and fast. later on in the early 80, a new sub genre of punk came about called oi! music, these skinhead bands write about beer, football and the working class movement in u.k at that time, bands who play oi are the business, sham 69,4 skins,oi polloi,uk subs and the oppressed,oi music has a more melodic feel and sing along choruses. the true fact that many bands from other genres were influenced by punk, like slayer have done a cover of exploited song, metallica had cover misfits and most music that comes out today actually borrow a lot from the above named bands who are the pioneers of punk and oi. to all punks and skins(the original punks and skins from uk) i salute them for bringing wonderful culture music and message to our country.like expolited once said "Punks Not Dead!"
hope my humble opinion will give more knwoledge of the punk scene, cheers!

Learn something? Love, you're the one who needs to learn something here. Punk rock and punk are totally different matters.

Go do your research first.

to yy_fuctup, whats the difference? punk is the culture and punk rock is the music genre?
there's a definite fine line between punk rock & pop-punk & contemporary pop-punk

Rock is a genre which covers half of nowadays' music. To generalize, punk would be more upbeat and punk rock would be, influenced by mainstream rock.

Their messages are different. Punk songs are about political stands and punk rock is about what not.

im sorry but i dont think that was a correct statement.
punk bands that are influenced by rock n roll are bands like electric frankenstein and rocket from the crypt, etc.
if you're talking about mainstream 'punk rock' bands like green day, etc, i believe they are pop-influenced punk, aka, pop-punk.

well, its a fact that bands like greenday and blink-182 are pop-punk.
but whats wrong with the term pop-punk? is it not as cool as punk rock?
because when i remembered, punk rock was sex pistols and they sure do not sound like green day or blink-182. and im not saying those 2 bands aren't good, because they are. but genres are there for a reason. alot of people i know stop liking blink-182 or greenday when they were told that they aren't in fact punk rock... thats so wrong because pop-punk is good too and greenday/blink-182 are sure better than all the other crap mtv and wikipedia is calling pop-punk nowadays

Punk and Punk Rock different meh... :X
Hardcore Punk & Hardcore Punk Rock.
Metalcore Rock......
WHAT?!?! IM SO CONFUSED?!?!?!?!! @_@

next thing you know people will be telling you there's a difference between glam rock and hair rock, glam metal and pop metal, hardcore metal and metalcore (hardcore metal is hardcore-influenced metal and metalcore is metal-influenced hardcore) HAHAHAHAHAHA.

F*ck this shit...

just enjoy punk rock..

No use for a name, nofx, lagwagon, strung out(punk rock with METAL influence), Craigs' Brother, these are good punk rock bands..
