So..you have the sticks, without a Kit now, am I correct?.

You still can practice Drum Rudiments for now, but you need a pad....or maybe you can get a Cheap Snare Drum (by scouting around if you are lucky S$50.00 for a 14" one).

Click the below link: - Student Lessons On Rudiments:-
http://www.vicfirth.com/education/studcentersnare.html

Remember: - When you do Rudiments...eg Flam here as an example - Listen carefuly to the sound of the Rudiment eg A Flam should sound like that etc...but it's not going to be easy for you as you have no one to guide you here.....If you can get an Instructor...that's best, if not then you will have to meet-up some bros here who will show you how it's done (you must observe their hands n the snare in it's application - and how that particular Rudiment should sound).

Always practice Rudiment slowly (watch your hands & snare - it's control here)...Then speed comes slowly. You need not rush it. Practice till you can eg "Talk to your friends at the same time" or "Watching TV at the same time"..or "doing any other things whatever" - YET you can expedite the Rudiment automatically (meaning in the pocket) - then ...you are ok with that Rudiment....this is the way to practice it.

A Flam lR, rL is the 1st thing you must know which belongs to the Flam Groups before you can even learn to epedite Rudiments belonging to this Group eg. Flam Tap, Flam Accent, Flamacue, Flam Paradiddle, Flam Paradiddle-diddle - and there is a Paradiddle Group)..........

Now from the Flam...you see lR (where l = your Left hand had to play it soft like a touch and Right hand louder ) - so you hold your sticks on the Left 1 to 2cm away from the Snare in terms of height....and your right hand around 25cm etc. - then drop both stick down at the same time - and the Right hand now should be 1 to 2cm away from snare only, the Left which you lifted up is now again around 25cm from snare in terms of height (so control of your sticks is required here)...Do this slowly. How consistent the sound of your Flam depends on getting the sticks (controlled) on or about the same height after doing a stroke.

Note: - There is always a tendency, as a beginner to bring up both (Right & Left Hand) a little before you expdite the stroke - This is incorrect that's why you need someone to guide in Rudiments. The stroke should be expedited at that stationary position where it landed - it sounds better & consistency is there - most importantly you can acquire speed easily from here later on - If you lift the sticks higher alittle 1st before expediting the stroke - you can never play fast later-on...there is a limit to it - That's Techniques.

I can't write & explain well here, but just hope you can understand - just trying my best.

PS: Try to practice (1) Singles (2) Doubles (3) Flams & (4) Paradiddle - first before you get into other Rudiments.

Click below link: Joint in the workshop, Alvin will make everything clear to you....it's good you should go and it's cheap.
