prractice routine

i only have one hour a day =x

i start by playing some stuff i like to warmup,

then into my practice, like for a particular songi am learning now.

alernate days to rudients drumming and try new beats and fills for me :)

haha.. practicing 2 hrs a day is alot alright!.. keep it up man. haha.. i suggest doing rudiments and grooves

Man that's a good question... When I had only 2 hours before I just worked on the stuff that had priority, usually stuff I've just learnt or something I really wanna get down asap. If you divide your practice time into 30 min sessions, you can work on like 4 different things, such as 4 different grooves.

You'd be amazed at how much you can work on when you're super focused and time is of the essence.

best is to start of with a slow song to play to first.
something soft rock, with nice fills. get yourself warmed up.
then after you feel okay, you start your rudiments or song that you're playing.
right now double pedaling for me.

hmm i guess because there is a lack of time to prac, i do like listen to music a lot or think about new patterns or possibilities to practice on the set all the time... tapping my hands and feet when i am thinking of a certain idea anywhere i go... think and sing of drum parts, so that there is like lesser time needed to warm up to a set...

yup thats a great way to learn. not everything happens at the set. even listening to songs with great drums helps. well i try no tto have fixed times at the sets. just quality. so it could vary from 40mins to 2hrs?

hey for me i try not to peak over 1 hour, cuz being the considerate residential civilian i am, i try not to disrupt the daily ongoings of my neighbours as well as my dad (who's working night shift) hHAHAA

besides, i'm in the midst of o levels

so yah, i usually do 5-10min of crappy playing and jamming. then half an hour of nonstop double pedaling at 70bpm semiquavers. then the rest JAM JAM JAM. and if i have a new groove that i wanna learn, i'll practice that seriously instead of fooling around the kit. the fooling around the kit can be pretty productive sometimes, espacially when u incorporate rudiments and stuff.

hell, i think drumming's 10 times harder than sudoku

it really helps to watch alot alot of drum videos, ranging fron jazz to metal, right before you practice. it can make your "jam session" and your practice hours more enjoyable cuz u natually mimic what you just saw in the videos before u go on to practice. =D

i haf this one tips for strengthen ur left hand (if u are a right handed) single stroke. try doing LLR at a pillow. dont do it at practice pad because with pad, the stick will bounce and with the pillow it didnt. so it will strengthen ur wrist muscle as well. happy trying. :)

practice routine before i touch drumset:

pick up a couple of sticks and practice on a pillow at 60bpm with teh following sets(with accents when used to it):

triplets ( RLL , RRL , LRR, LLR )
8thth notes ( RLRL,LRLR, Single Paradiddle, Double Paraddidle, TripleParadiddle, and their reverses)
5th strokes ( RLLRR LRRLL )
6th strokes ( RLrrll , rrllRL )
7th strokes ( Rllrrll , Lrrllrr )
16th notes( double strokes and single strokes almost same as 8th notes )

<take a break>

go to drumset and do some metronome work...grooves and such.. :)

I would use an epad if i had 1 actually, but nah...i use a simple ( horrid reboundless 1 ) pillow.

how long prac ah bro-buah...not too long la...especially the pillow part....take it as rudimental warm up....recalling back all the stuff uve learnt...muscle memory...i prac till where i get slightly tired.den take a break b4 going to drumset.

especially important...the prac is at 60bpm so u can take a look at your technique...accents...and stuff...

oh yah...i forget...i do flams too...normal flams...flam taps...and that triplet flam thing forget the name..haha...

i used to practice long double pedaling at 60bpm, till i got sick of it so i now use 70bpm. i don't think this subtle increase in tempo will really affect the intention of the exercise. hopefully not. =D
