First Annual summit for Live music promoters in Singapore

If you are a promoter, I hope you guys can find the time to attend the first gig organizer summit being held this Friday between 7pm to 9pm at Gashaus.

This is a serious discussion, so do bring along a topic if you wish to participate in the talk. The timing will be kept strictly to 10 minutes a speaker with priority given to those who RSVP. If you are a promoter and wish you voice to be heard, please participate.

The objective is to determine the direction of the local live music scene with issues such as “Should live gigs be free?” and “Is Paying to play going to damage the scene?”. Refreshments will be in the form of wine and a small buffet meant for 30pax. Please RSVP asap. (And bring along $10 to chip in for the food please - YES YOU! DONT KAY SIOW. I Paid for it upfront okay...).

Guests that have RSVPed include:
Willy Tan (Bar None/Aging Youth),
James Woo (Soft),
Rui (Guitar 77),
Razi bin Razak (Rockstar Collective)

AFTERMATH:

Very productive.
We went through quite a number of topics including:

1. should bands sell tickets - Topic by Saito (Gashaus/Flow)

2. Adding value for events (through promoters) - Topic by John Hemsley (awakening)

3. Should Live Events be Free? - Topic by Saito
The overrall response was 'if there is enough material to be paid for then yes'

4. There is a lack of mid level events

5. Is NS a hindrance to the development of Live Music in Singapore?

Itinery included a western Buffet a performance by Mesh Potatoes :)
---

Both Chris from SPH (Maxim) and myself recorded a significant amount of footage for this seminar, but we collectively decided that it might not be a good idea to broadcast the footage until we have a few more sessions. James from Soft suggested that after a series of these forums we should make a 'presentation' to the public :)

All in all, it was good. Alot of things learnt!

Attendees:
Saito (Gashaus / Flow)
Razi bin Razak (Rockstar Collective)
John Hemsley (Awakening)
James Woo (Soft.com.sg)
Xiao An (The Sexies)
Benjamin (Flybar)
Felix (Froplay)
Nikk Eu (Insound Studio)
Chris Toh (AWOL / SPH)
Rui (Guitar 77)

Apologies:
Anthony Kan (Heartrock)
Willy Tan (Bar None / Agingyouth)

I will organise another one in a few weeks. Hopefully someone else might take the initiative to host?
