Hey guys, I need help on my guitar which has FR bridge. It always get out of tune after playing couple of times which really irritates me (especially when doing squeals or divebombs)!
What should I do in order not to go out of tune?....
Is it unavoidable?...
Must change FR?...
The locking nuts?...

Whats ur bridge?
trs? edge?
Floating bridges are always getting off tune, no big deal.
Even Edge pro bridge guitars i've tried before, they get off tuning too.

Not true, my jackson floyd is stable as hell, firstly, did you lock your locking nuts? Is it a double locking floating bridge? If it is, maybe its time to swap it out for a better floyd. It came from an LTD right?

These cheap FR copies don't keep in tune very well after a divebomb, or even a string bend.
Even worse if they aren't set up properly or the strings aren't stretched enough.
I've learned to live with the shortcomings of my LTD's Licensed FR and Ibanez Edge III.
My tuning always goes a little flat after a divebomb so what I always do is just pull up a bit to get it back in tune.
Either that or just a quick little hit on the finetuners with the ball of my right palm to get the bridge level again.
Not a perfect solution but it works for me.

Yours is jackson leh..yup,mine is esp ltd alexi 200...yes,its a double locking tremolo and i lock the nut like hell....still the same it goes out of tune after sometime....:(

Yeah, sometimes a string bend also goes out of tune!...what do u mean by aren't stretched enough???

Look around the 2nd hand market for a stable floyd. Get one and slap it into your guitar. That guitar probably comes loaded with a low end floyd since its pretty much the bottom end of the alexi laiho signature range. Thats why I don't get signature guitars, they kinda suck unless if their the real custom shop deal.

hmmz its usual for it to go out of tune... to counter this prob... see if the springs are balanced properly.. ur nuts and saddles are nicely lock... i think some of the issues also come from the strings u use... some strings just aint for whammy imo... :X...

no its not usual to go outta tune. Its a quality issue, if it's usual to go outta tune, steve vai would be a very dead man.

Yes, it is NOT usual for a good double locking system to go out of tune. And the return to pitch is superior - unless you have worn parts, even then, you are talking about a few cents off.

Guys - a proper Floyd Rose system is more stable than a fixed bridge system! Come on... most of the issues with stability are really due to poor setup = ignorance.

Threadstarter - go to Ibanezrules.com and check out the tech section. Google for how to setup a floyd rose. There are PLENTY of resources. Read read read - then go try it out. If you think you have tried everything else but nothing works, get a Gotoh Floyd Rose. Its available online from Ebay for a mere USD120 or so. This is the best Floyd Rose around right now.

Shredcow..thx for the website link...so USD120 gotoh FR for a new set or 2nd hand?..coz i dont noe abt the price gotoh selling them:)....

You gotta throw in shipping. Drop by ebay to find some gotoh FRs.

Don't jump on the "new = gold" bandwagon just yet. Explore what you have first. Do some research. It will help you make a more educated guess than "because someone said so...". :)

Maybe, you should try to figure out where the problem really lies first.. Your locking nuts, do they lock the strings tightly(Screwin tight vs locking tight). If you get OFR, then your locking nut still sucks then you probably waste hellotta money..
Anyway, cut short.. maybe it's the springs some lose tension, some can move in and out of place during dive..
It's either the springs, strings or nut.. (Most of the time is the spring, frm my experience)
Cheers,

The OFR = Original Floyd Rose. The first one made by Mr Floyd Rose.

He has a patent on it.

So you wanna use the design - you need to pay for the license to use it so you have your licensed floyd rose trems.

Makes sense?

Problem is, the licensed stuff are unfortunately more often than not, inferior to the real deal. Cheaper metals, poor QC, etc etc What what is worse is that the real deal, the OFR, has been declining in quality itself!

The Gotoh FR on the other hand... licensed yes but... its made with the proper metals like the OFR, tough, has ergonomic improvements, a superior arm assembly design, comes with a brass block, is cheaper than the OFR, has much better QC and... it retrofits most licensed FR routes.

The only thing I can think of that the Gotoh 'loses out' to the OFR is... the name. Uh... if you like a steel block then the OFR has the steel block.

i own an ibanez rg dun noe the model but it was the first few to have the edge FR. 80's even before the jem. those were good it never goes out of tune. guess they dun make it like they use to. its not even a high end model
