i have a epi lp custom and i have problems when i play the 17th fret on the thinest string the note is always wrong no matter how i try to tune it.can anyone help me?

sounds like an intonation problem... adjusting the saddle at the bridge will fix it.. google or check on youtube how to fix intonation for your guitar.. quite a simple task actually.. =)

its not that easy, sometimes it doesnt matter how much you adjust it, it remains exactly as untuned as before. although thats probably just friction problem

yea,and on a fixed bridge its FREAKIN easy, the first time i did it on my floyd,my god took me hours about a 6 i guess haha for me it was long cause i changed the guage XDDD,na youll know once you know the process of intonating that why i also think its causing your tuning madness

its like the notes just jump from A on the 17th fret then on the 18 to A sharp and then on the 19th fret it jumps to C. so its the intonation?

im not sure whether its the neck but it only happpens on one string the thinnest one so i just have to check my intonation?

check your intonation, if its fine, maybe its neck warp. place your eye at the head stock of your guitar and look downwards...

huh.. only those 3 frets? woah man i don't know what could be wrong now.. but yeah as naviros said.. could be a warped neck.. but didn't know it could cause such a drastic change in tuning..

thx for all the help i doubt its neck warp i looked already perfectly straight. i will try the intonation thx.

hmm you can check the frets at the 17th and 18th too. maybe they are not constructed nicely or slightly worn out. possible cause for it being out of tune there.

Supposedly, it should be a B on your 19th? This is my take.

17th A
18th A#
19th B
20th C

But skips to C?

Fret is very worn on B. When you fret down, the string touches 20th fret and produces that note instead of a B (19th).

Try tightening your tension and raising your action. So it 'elevates' higher.

Might be cause of very low action, with very worn out frets. Don't know, could be :S

Sorry if this wasn't useful.

I'm a newbie! :S
