Reviews??? This product has received tons of good reviews throughout the world and you are asking for one here??? It's this reason i bought one....
But if you are hearing a clear cut answer, i will give you my personal opinion.
It works without any compatibility problems at all, none so far. Unlike my previous Tascam US428, the Firepod was easy installation and everytime i turn on the pc, i detects it without any issues.
Little issues though come when i use Sonar, it detects all the channels, but doesn't name them properly numerically. I don't see number 1,2,3,4 etc, i just see number 0,0,0,0, etc. I have to actually count them to know which track is it, which is a little small hassle, but easy enuff. Maybe this is a compatibility issue with Sonar, i don't know.
Another issue with it comes from the preamps. Presonus preamps are really clean and strong, unlike colored Mackies. The preamps have low self-noise unlike the Tascam ones, which is really good enuff to me. However, unlike the big advertisements of it having 8 mic preamps, there are actually only 2. The rest are just instrument preamps. When you peak the gain on the 1st two jacking in a mic, the volume is just right. But when you do that for channel 3-8, the volume is much softer though. Surprisingly for some mics it works alrite there, but for some it turns out so soft. This isn't much of an issue though since i can normalise the signal in software and becos it's rather clean, there is very little added noise due to normalisation. But really, i would prefer strong preamps on all 8 if it was possible.
The last bad thing is Presonus like to design on/off buttons at the back, they always do that to all their models. It is sick as when a rack is held by a holder, you would have to stick your hands all the way behind the bunch of cables just to turn it on all the time. What i did was to place the power socket next to it so i can turn on/off through the socket rather than on the Firepod itself, leaving the on/off button on "on" position throughout. I don't get it, why don't they put it in front, isn't that common sense???
Besides all these, it's highly useable. I like the input/playback knob, very useful for monitoring, and the design is superb. Haven't tried the channel I/O and aux yet, hope they work fine......
Overall, great product, it works great and that's the most important thing. Little hassles can really be workaround after all....
