If you notice, with alternate picking, you can go crazy fast, as fast as you can, and its pretty simple to work up that kind of speed, just the picking. The problem arises when people cannot control that speed and synchronise their fretting with the picking.

That's damn true; it's like the biggest problem I had, since my right hand was alot weaker than my left hand.

Modes... scales... THe major minor 7 note scales you learn are all modes, if you didn't know

hmm ... i notice there's a diff with my pick hand when i pick inward 45° and outward 45° (more like flat picking the string) and it's a lot harder picking outward ... the pick kinda get struck whenever i picked upward ... but it sounds more dynamic and power ...

guess i'll need more practice Practice PRACTICE ... :)

whats the mixolydian? is it a new scale i can try?

Mixo IMO just sound like C major scale if you go up and down. Think of modes as "unique sounds", each of them have their own taste and style. By going up and down mode patterns don't exactly give you the real "mode" feel.

Well, there is definitely a difference in sound between major and mixolydian...but, yeah, the best way to hear the sound is by working with the mixolydian scale over a mixo chord progression.
