Power Chords

Guitarists of every genre, especially punk, i need your help..

Ive always heard that you guys use something called power chords to produce grungy type of tunes on the guitar with distortion. I tried this power chord once with no pedals whatsoever but with the drive on on my 15 watt practice amp.

If im right, this called the A5 power chord. Well correct me if im wrong. I strummed all strings, but it sounded awful.

Guys, you all gotta help me. I have no money for electric guitar lessons and whats more i have a band. I feel so left without knowing power chords.

maybe bcos u strum all 6 stirngs?? try mute the strings that nv use.. with ur middle or index finger., hope this help.. try press firmly too..

Palm mutes are usually for two strings only...

Strummig all the strings with distortion will cause a muddy sound...Take their advice strum 577 onli... 8)

Power!!

Power Chords formation is very complicated, but the simplest I could tink of is to play Barre chord e.g. C

e|-3-|
b|-5-|
g|-5-|
D|-5-|
A|-3-|
E|-x-|

Then remove the brighter strings (e, b and/or g) to form

g|-5-|
D|-5-|
A|-3-|
E|-x-|

Strum it with distortion & it'll give you dat bassy feeling.

Erm

I mean most Metal/Rock bands derive their solos & melodic assaults from power chords too. Its not just punk or punk rock or rock, its UNIVERSAL!!

correct me if i'm wrong ...

power chords = playing only the bassy string = 6th 5th 4th.

e.g. if playing 'smoke on the water' which is Gm, Bb, C ... i only play the 6th, 5th, 4th for Gm, 5th, 4th, 3rd for Bb and 5th, 4th, 3rd for C
