PoW WoW!! ‘09
a Singapore music festival

It’s back! After a three year absence The Prince of Wales is proud to announce the return of the yearly PoW WoW!! music festival, featuring some of Singapore’s best home-grown bands.

In 2006, the Prince of Wales in Little India hosted the first PoW WoW!!, featuring up-and-coming local acts, including The Great Spy Experiment, The Pinholes and Dreams of Day Architecture.

The Prince of Wales has a reputation for giving local acts a platform, especially those new to the scene, and it is unsurprising that the venue is regarded as “constantly coming up with ways to give the bands the attention they deserve” (Saiful Idris, The Great Spy Experiment). It is because of this commitment to supporting home-grown music that all entrance money from the event will once again go directly to the artists performing.

The then “new” bands from the original PoW WoW!! have moved on and grown in status, but it is with pride and no small measure of excitement that PoW WoW! ’09 will be introducing the next generation of Singaporean talent! The evening opens with pop/rock covers act Quinarii, continuing with the heavier beats of Blackdiscoball, and the act already being hailed as Singapore’s Next Big Thing, The London Fog. With support from Filipino reggae/ska/punk act, Lupa & the Superstars, and culminating in a set by one of Singapore’s finest international artists on the decks – DJ Boogaloo Shrimp (aka: Ullyses James) – PoW WoW ’09 will be rocking on until 2am!

This one-day musical-extravaganza will be held on Saturday 2nd May at The Prince of Wales, from 6pm until 2am – payment on the door: guys $10, girls $5 – no dress code – drinks promotions to be announced.
