I'm doing a reseach project for my degree course currently of promoting a local post-metal artist in Singapore.

Fans of Post-Metal bands such as Neurosis/Cult Of Luna/Isis etc.. I need feedback and answers to some questions I have...

1) Do you think this particular genre of Post-Metal has evolved into Singapore's music scene?

2) Why?

3) What are the names of Post-Metal bands in Singapore? Have they been established yet? Is there any?

4) Is there a large Post-Metal scene out in Singapore - Is there even one?

Thanks Guys.

so many diff genres nowadays .

last time the main one's were metal , death metal , thrash metal , nu-metal

now gt wad funny funny names one

What is a post metal? Is it Thrash metal, death metal, black metal, or nu-metal?

Post-metal is like post-rock with it's roots in metal instead.
It's basically another name for instrumental metal.
The interesting thing is, I can't stand metal in general, and I quite enjoy post-metal.

post metal tends to be extract! but very good to listen to
i haven't seen any post metal bands in singapore.. and i dun think it has quite settled into our music scene yet.. just hope!

Yeah thanks for the comments ys and vheissu. I just need some answers from a few fans of Post Metal... some feedback on where you think the scene is and is going for Post Metal bands and artists out there?

I'm working on a promotional project where i'm recording a Post-Metal EP [artist is not to be mentioned as of yet] and i need to find out how Post-Metal stands in Singapores music scene currently.

Cheers :)

hi i think if you do get the EP out it could certainly be the first such release here.

closest thing we have to such stuff is the postrock bands like I Am David Sparkle (Mogwai-Isis vibes) and Documentary In Amber (more Explosions In The Sky style), but nothing in the vein of Pelican which is essentially heavy metal dudes playing postrock hahaha..........

so go for it!!! I'll buy it!!!

Thanks. I shall check out those bands. The band that I am recording is more along the lines of Isis and Cult Of Luna.

i appreciate ur support !

Nope, none of our local bands have any tinge or impression of post-metal whatsoever, zilch, zero, nada. But I'm pretty sure there are some bands out there who are influenced by post-rock. Post-metal: still largely unrecognized in Singapore - I don't think there's even a large enough fanbase of the genre. Cheers to you mate for bringing it up; Red sparowes, Pelican, Cult of luna and Isis are brutally beautiful! 8)

well, i guess my band could kind of be descirbe as post metal... cause we don't quite fit post hardcore.... but we still have vocals so maybe that disqualifies us...

There is a deff ISIS influence there, and a bit of Mastadon...

anyway, check out www.myspace.com/skyineuphoria

haha yes sky in euphoria :)

jerome, ur lead vocalist is doing backup vocals for my project according to chris.

as of yet its unconfirmed.

zzz...

btw any avant garde/experimental metal listeners here? Bands like See You Next Tuesday, Flesh And Blood Robot, Negativa?

my music taste is damn diverse i also dunno why...

Well call it Stoner Metal, Bands like Russian Circles, Ira, Red Sparrows, Godflesh, Tool, The Melvins, Jesu, Mouth Of The Architect and the whole she-bang-bang rooted from Art metal is lacking of a scene here cause not many bands can dig the whole long draggy song structures and progression of melodic and ambient to distorted, detuned and heavy so yeah i think it's great to have that edge in the scene with that ep coming out and well hopefully that might spark other bands to do the same and embark on the similar path towards a Stoner Metal, Sludge Metal, Drone, Art Metal, Post Metal scene. That's my input. Add me up for more info. Yeah Simon, Heard Jerome is on the record. It's Simon/Lawrence's friend Chris here.
