Polishing chrome parts

Hi guys...

what do you guys use to polish off the green mould that is
stuck on your chrome parts?

please advise.

Thanks.

If it's the fretwires on the fingerboard, tape every each of exposed fingerboard wood with masking tape, then use steel wool to brush away all that disgusting mould. Any other parts, i suppose you could regular polishers eg brasso etc.

Try to start light first... use Dunlop 65 guitar body polish... or some mild polisher before going on to the heavy duty stuff like brasso.

And when you have to use brasso, be very careful not to let it touch any wood. Wipe it off asap if it happens.

If it's a maple neck, you've got to remove the tape carefully if not a piece of lacquer might come off with the tape.

how about the chrome humbucker pickup covers? what do you u use to polish that? I m afraid it might leak into the wirings....

If you fear damaging any partsof your guitar, its best to unscrew the pickup and remove the pickup cover and work from there.

If the corrosion or mold growth is extensive, polishing components won't work well. I've restored my chrome knobs and the saddles on my wilkinson tremolo back to its original shine by using a combination of fine grade steel wool, autosol and quite a lot of patience.

A better option is just to purchase new chrome pickup covers or accessories from allparts. I believe davis stock them. Pickup covers go for $10.
