Playing with Drummers

speaking about drum machinese does any of you bassist have any? i am interested in getting one but i heard tht the price is  . i jus need something to back my bass up to compliment my sound so when i record my playing would so much better!

if you already have a computer at home, you can actually install some softwares which allow you to programme the drumbeats you want. in that case, it really saves money, and you can customize your drumming to fit certain bass lines you create. quite cool..

bass - drums.

basically, the bass notes lock in with the kick drum, and sometimes with the snare. bass is a very percussive instrument! of course, thats just basic. you can always move out of the norms and do whatever you like! (lets hope it sounds gd to at least one other person :D)

when the drummer does his kick drum, bassist hv to play a note at the exact same time right?

do u mean u hv to emphasize on the note? mayb play louder abit?

Depends on how u wanna your song to sound. Laidback? Then u tend to play off the bass drum. Driving? Straight 8th or 16th notes would be a safe bet. Groovy? Lock with the bass drum and accent the notes. But this is just a super rough guide I guess.

Try checking out a Berklee DVD masterclass called Rockin' Grooves. That should start you on it :)

playing behind or above the beat, creates the pulling back and pushing 'feel' respectively. needs practice and of cos alot of time with your friendly metronome.

i need to start heeding my own advice

haha, visa, hi5 man! but i'm beginning to practice more, that's really good! if playing with a metronome is a really boring notion to you, try thinking that the metronome is a very boring but on-time drummer. i dunno, but i call my metronome "Jimmy".

"nice practice, Jimmy, wanna go for a drink or two?"

i'm wondering why isit called the KICK drum.

we drummers don't actually kick it.

maybe the traditional drummers used to KICK it?? .. i'm not sure ..

hmm...bass drum mayb? or step drum will be better coz we step on pedals and the beater hit it....im a drumer too ^ ^ hahah!!!

:D

Good way to practice being in time with your drummer's kick is to put your foot against the bass drum. Doing so will allow you to feel the kick, and you can try and follow what he's playing.

Most of the time, the guitarists will be doing a great job of making so much noise that we bassists can't hear the drums, so if you have trouble hearing the kick, it's a great idea to to the above.

This is also a good thing to do when you're playing with a new drummer, and you're unfamiliar with his kick style. Every drummer has a different way of using his kick, so it's good to try and learn his style, so you can work together with him to form a great rhythm section.

I just started out on bass guitar. Is there anywhere I can find free drum machines on the internet for my computer?
