This tread reminds me of the dawn of CD-ROM drives on PCs. But it's more relavent then than later. It used to be VCD players cost like $400-$500. So people who buy computer insist that their PCs can be used to watch VCDs. Abiet laggy and disruptive viewing, people were glad as they hit 2 birds in one stone.
As the years goes by and VCD players dropped till about $150. People are still expecting their PCs to come with a player software as standard. Well, if it helped PC sales and no additional cost incurred, everyone was still happy. Service techs still have to contend with entertaining users who got problems to "watch VCD" on PC.
So the years progresses and VCD players have become as cheap as a toaster, less than $100. Still there is some people who will ask if the PC got software to view VCD. This is where we will roll our eyes and proclaim: "a VCD will work best with a VCD player (turnkey product). The PC can be used to watch VCD, but would that be even part of your requirements since a VCD player these days are so cheap and almost every home have at least one??? Go watch your VCD on a VCD player, it'll save you and us time and trouble."
So we apply the same principle to the same tread. "you can use a PC to play your guitar thru, but as the PC is not built with this purpose in mind, it's function will be troublesome and problematic at worst, given guitar amps going under $100, I would not even consider the PC, unless it's just to fulfill some funny itch you have at the rear of your brain. Do you want to turn on your PC everytime you have an urge or inspiration and wait for windows XP to boot and the software to load (3-5mins), or just plug it in and flick of the switch (1sec), start playing unhindered."
