playing for your band

hey was just wondering..
how do you guys learn new songs your band wanna play?eg a cover song
do you memorise by heart or drum tabs?
im really curious bout this
personally for me i jus memorise by heart and try try during jamming(i don have a drum set at home)
hmm.. wat bout u guys?

yes i do the same thing as you. i used to read tabs back when my first band tried to cover green day. i realised i didnt understand them. haha

i guess for drums, try to memorise by heart. don't need to be 100% perfect right? do it your own style.

my drummer listens to the songs and improvises on it.he really plays the drum like he is playing shit.

For me, i just start by finding out the basic beats of the song, how it progresses along roughly and normally there are a lot of repitition. Then i just keep spammin the whole song all day long and for a few days tt is, before i figure out in detail and learn hw to play the whole song. It would be much easier then

Yeah no need to be too exact larh. I used to 'try' tabs but gave up in the end. If you use tabs then its too technical, like what part of the songs must hit what.

Like that you miss a crash or smth you will feel like you cannot tahan.

well what works for me is, i listen to the songs a couple of times, yeah couple of times and try to figure out the beats, also i tend to do my own fill ins when i get bored of playing the same beats, thats my use of creativity.but on the other hand i have a drumkit at homw to start with, so it really does help, and won't gabra much.? haha

Usually I'd try to find scores or tabs, and if I can't find them I'd try to figure out the beats. Then I'll try to memorize them by heart by playing repeatedly everywhere I go, if I can't the score/tab will be with me during jamming.

And if I can't find anything or we decide to play something at the spur of the moment, the only thing I can do is improvise, a.k.a. try my best to get a feel of the music and hantam something.
