Playing 100 watt amps in Singapore

for those of us who aren't too bothered by on-board amp distortion, just need a good, working tube tone to get on with, Visual Sound's Stallion (2x12) & Pony (1x12) amps are very good units to own. also, they are low wattage, plenty of power amp saturation to work with 8)

Workhorse if great when used with a drive/distortion pedal but the clean is... well... flat. But then again, maybe that's what is is designed to sound like i.e. to have no character. :D

I have an old 1969 silverface Twin reverb which I managed to pick up last year and I'm still in love with it. Its loud but I can get nice tone at reasonable levels too. It sounds simply awesome running my pacifica through a blues driver into it. It still makes my hair stand.

I'm going to fix up a 5E3 tweed deluxe soon too. Ordering it from Ceriatone once my paypal code comes through. :)

Hey, are you guys able to crank the amp till you get distortion or "saturation"?

I have trouble doing that even with my 5-watter Valbee :P
There's Gain and Volume controls on it. I still wonder what they do even after sub's countless explanations..
But when I do max both(when it's raining heavily).. Ooh sweet baby

Any input?

Sometimes, I just crank the clean channel on my Univalve (w/ attenuator off) to the 3 o' clock level where it begins to break-up very nicely.

All done at decent HDB volume levels.

Add a boost or distortion pedal for additional gain.

this is really cool.. thanks for the heads-up. Might try it one day... looks like the ideal recording setup.

where to get a hotplate from btw? order direct?

THDs are all direct order right now.

But in this thread, it includes someone mentioning that they were ordering Weber Mass 100s.

maybe a bigger order might get a better price.

i recall THD betters its prices for a slab of 5 hotplates so maybe Weber does so too. Just guessing but no harm trying.

I asked Ted twice with regards to the cost (once for 1 unit and the second time for 4 units). The price is still the same but probably can save on shipping. He couldn't give me the exact shipping cost but he said its about 50USD for the shipping for 1 unit and 80USD for 4 units so the saving is pretty apparent. However, due to some circumstances, 2 of the orders pulled out and now we're just left with only two. He have not got back to me on the shipping cost yet but he said he'll let me know once he has finished my 2 units. Then he'll quote me the exact ahipping price.

the pricing curve for US postal shipping starts off high and then tapers off.

my experience on shipping attenuator is to try and ship 3-5 cause as you pointed out, there's a ton of savings there.
