Hi Guys, im a lefty , was wondering whether it will be worth it changing the pickups of my J&d Strat copy to a SD Hot Rails? is it worth it?
and btw, is there any difference btween pickups? i mean i tried to spot the difference between 2 SD Pickups sound but couldnt spot the difference.
your Views on this?

good pickups with good amp=hear big difference
good pickups with shitty amp=no difference

get it now? and the pickups would probably cost more then the guitar, which imo is not worth it, save up and get a better axe

i went to the SD website and their you can audio play how the pickups sound some of them have completly no difference and i bet their using a good amp or recording thing i dont know what you call that. so you mean to say their using a lousy recording system or amp? no offence about your views =x

When I changed my neck pickup to SD Vintage Rails for my MIM Strat, I couldn't hear the difference on the Roland Cube 20x, but on my Nakamichi Speakers with adapter it is soon noticeable.

Krewpedia: What is your amp and what wood is your guitar?

Completely no difference? Are you sure?

its probably because you are tone deaf. period.

edit: next time if you ask for help, please have some intelligence.

I changed my Samick SG's stock to a JB. It was really hard for me to spot the difference at first, I was digging the net for samples. After I got it into my guitar, then I could really hear the difference, normally during jamming. I use Marshall MG15CDR at home, which isn't that good imo.

If you have the money why not try it? Anyway I would really choose to listen to ladyintears at this point becuz my SG wasn't really in a good condition. Now it's screwed so I just chuck it aside.

if u cant hear the difference... then GREAT.. means u probably wont even appreciate the new pickups when u put them into ur guitar.

the changes will be subtle. and judging from ur statements, u probably wont even be able to tell a difference once u've changed ur pickups.

now u go answer this question for urself:
i cant hear a difference between different pickups. but i still wanna change my pickups. is that worth it?

i personally wouldnt want to spend a couple hundred bucks on something that i cant tell a difference.

i really cant help but rant..

WHY IS EVERYONE SO OBSESSED WITH CHANGING PICKUPS? VERY COOL IS IT?

Play them both at the same time and tell me you don't hear a difference. Also, what Dudelove said. Paying more for expensive pickups just to replace your stock ones is pointless especially if you don't even know what you're looking for. You have to know what you are aiming to improve with your sound to know what you're supposed to buy in the first place.

Its just your ears have not been attuned to hear the ' subtle ' differences between the various sounds.

It comes with experience and exposure. To someone else the difference may be damn bloody obvious where as to you it may be subtle or maybe even unidentifyable.

I wouldnt classify you as tone deaf, at least not yet ( hope i dont have to ) cause i know u mean well. But trying exposing yourself more first and describe what you have heard in your own approach. Thats something no1 can take away from you. Your ears.

EXACTLY. +100000

for me i know what i want. i want pickups in the PAF camp. low output, tad bit of compression and a very well balanced tone.

i dont like my current gibson pickups because they are way too hot for my liking, and they are overly compressed for me.. i do like the voicing though.

for goodness sake dont change pickups just because the moment u plug ur guitar into ur amp and the tone sucks. dont blame the pickups first.

it probably is ur own technical skills or many other factors.
