Sweet right? :D

I got GC to cut the pickguard for me. Not very straight but.. Mai hiam beh pai la. 1st impression of my new stan hinesley custom pickups, being alnico 5 pickups, have more lower midrange compared to my previous ceramic pickups, a viper and a jb jr. The jb jr is muddy and dull compared to the helix, which is bright, yet creamy. The scorpion is not as bright and cutting as the viper, and it does not do heavy chugga as well, but it sounds crunchy and warm. Kinda the thing I want.

Oh, and the helix is custom. Just like shredcow's, mine has 12 screws instead of 6 screws and 6 slugs. The scorpion comes standard in all screws. Both sport gold screws which doesn't really stand out in the picture cos of my crappy cam.

super strat alert. man it would look really awesome if the pickguard is slightly aged and all the pickups and knobs are aged too. the floyd just completes the look and the guitar seems to scream shred!

bro u can get a new pickguard man...btw record something ..
dying to hear this HAS pu...

any chance for me to test this pu????:)

i do like the look of ur guit...better if u rout a "claw" on the trem cavity..
im thinking of Vai green meanie...which looks evil ..

The old pickguard was aged, but I decided to give it a fresh new look. I can't bear to part with the old switch plastic thing though, it feels good and looks cool, haha. The knobs are the old ones. Cream with lots of finger dirt. I'm intending to change to white knobs with gold wordings, but I'm still considering. I'm definately thinking of getting the floyd area routed for more pull up. I need to set the action lower without sacrificing pull up.

I just moved back to my old place and I have to do lots of packing up so I can't record just yet, but maybe this evening. You can come and try it out once I'm free from all the packing and army shit.

There's one thing about this set, the scorpion needs to have a little more output. Currently I'm setting my helix really low to balance with the scorpion. Also, the helix has much more bass compared to the scorpion. I'm hoping it's not because of my soldering.

In comparison, this was when I 1st got my guitar..

Then this is recent, when I got the viper and jbjr, and changed all the controls. 4P5T switch, 250K volume, 1M tone.

Also, nut problem has been fixed.

How low is really low?

My 13.5k viper and 10k Helix, the difference in height is maybe... a good 3 - 4 mm.

The Helix is very very sweet sounding man. I like the vibe, ESPECIALLY when split. Its because of how sweet it sounds split (even when compared to a single), that I've decided to stick a H-H config, when I used to think a H S S is the way to go. Only issue, is that because its alnico, its very rounded sounding... perhaps too "tame".
Redliner perhaps? :P

i've got the Redline in the neck position, warm but still clear. :) i love its clean tones, but it turns abit mushy under high gain. Not sure how the bridge version of it will fare...

i am considering the Helix for the bridge in my Epi Explorer in the future... cos i dont want something so aggressive in there... for aggression/bite i have my Viper in my RG's bridge position.

Oei, can lend?

Low as in, almost flush to the pickguard, maybe 2mm over. Yea the helix is sweeeet! I love it so much! Now if only the difference between the scorpion and viper was just a flick of a switch.. Scorpion for warmer rock tones and viper for blistering metal. There are actually similarities between the viper and the scorpion, one being the apparent lack of bass. The scorpion isn't as tight when it comes to chugga but I got a feeling it's because of the screw poles. I should have gotten stan to wind my scorpion a little hotter..

And I think the redliner might suit you very well.

Its okay man. :) Mine is... about 2mm out of the pup ring area if you know what I mean.

The tightness could also be due to the Alnico magnet.

I guess I'll try a Redliner some day.... Having too much fun with the Viper7/Dropzone7 combi at the moment.

Nope. Thankfully, my guitar has a swimming pool rout. There is another variation of this model that is H-H so the cavity has to cater for that.
