hello ppl..
i would like to enquire some stuff abt pedals..
im thinking of selling off my zoom multi efx and invest in single stompboxes..
it has been on in my head to do this for a long time but sometimes there's a fear i'll invest too much still without getting my tone :(
ok anyway these are some questions i would like toa sk the pros before me going out to try the pedals selected or pointed out to me by them

first of all i am in a metal core band.. and we do some progressive stuff too..
i really liked the lead tone of gilbert in his vid with marty.. i think its a ds1 keeley?
ok that is the lead tone i wanna achieve
for riffing i would like sth heavy, higher on the trebles, sth clear too.. i donnoe its between a modded mt2(boss) and a sansamp gt2. at least this is only how much i noe. hehe
and i am lookin for a dunlop 535q wah most prob,.
i think this are my main things
for delay and all i wish to get a small multi effx to achieve this.
and also is there such a thing as a bypass pedal?
sorry for so many questions but hope my questions would be answered
thank u all
:)

Don't think of DS1 as a high gain OD pedal. No it isn't. But when coupled with another OD pedal, this is when the little bugger starts to come alive. I currently have a DS1 Ultra with me, and on its own, it doesn't sound as good as I like.

The number one rule on playing heavier genres is not to imitate the setup of that particular band. Amps used, guitars used, pickups used are all different. An EQ might come in handy though.

Sine you're moving from multi efxs, you might wish to forgo a small multi for delay and just get a decent delay. There are the digitech digidelay, dd3/6, Line 6 echo park or DL4 etc or even the deluxe memory man for a true analog flavour.

Bypass wise, pedals come in either true bypass or non-true bypass. I'm not sure about a bypass pedal. But I guess a switcher could do that job.

Hope it helps.

You should try out a stock DS-1 first. The modded DS-1 still retains some of the stock's original attributes such as a thickening effect and (to my ears) a loose low end.
For the life of me, I could NEVER enjoy the DS-1... I had a stock one, had it modded to Keeley ULTRA Specs by Randolf, got its swapped for a TS9DX, THEN I went to get another stock DS-1 just to give it another shot. I gave it away. I just could not get used to the overly loose bottom end, even when modded! And I hated the way it make my tight rhythm tone all flabby. :(
So yeah, tone is relative and the "magical" DS-1 is not exempted from it. Btw, all the above related to the DS-1 on its own AND as a boost.

As for the choice btw the GT2 or modded MT2, I'll take the GT2, its still much more versatile. I mean, you can dial in countless settings on the GT2, from country twang to mellow jazz, AC DC crunch to Meshugga chug.
Also, like most Boss Distortion/Overdrive pedals, they sound pretty generic... unlike a GT2 where you can sound like a Mesa, or a Marshall. So you decide on what you would prefer, sounding generic or sounding like a good but common brand. ;)

ok..
i think i'll be getting a gt2 along with a wah for a start..
if any updates pls let me noe..
abt the bypass pedal im still unsure.. no one answered that
haha
thanks again all. :)

i think it was a stock ds-1, somebody had a picture of his pedalboard when he was here its the same pedals

I haven't seen many bypass boxes here. Someone was making a few before his 'factory' got shut down. They are fairly cheap to make though. I'm planning to make a couple of AB boxes in the coming months. Maybe I'll make some bypass boxes too to cater to this under supplied market.

A GT2 sounds good for the genre you play, is has all the gain you would ever want.

For heavier genres and metal don't underestimate the power of an EQ pedal. Put it before or after your GT2 or distortion pedal and it gives you more control over your distortion sound. For eg dial in a compressed tube amp sound and use the EQ after to tighten the sound up. That being said, I don't know of an EQ pedal that's quiet. The boss one tends to add noise when you push up the sliders at high gain. Maybe the MXR ones.

Ah... well, when you are ready then consider an eq lah. The Dan Electro Fish & Chips is quiet. Quieter than boss. But of course, jam the sliders up high, you're asking for a 12dB boost! Of course there will be noise.

dude ...
since you mentioned you play heavy metal and progressive...
Maybe you'd like to try the modded MT2 before getting the gt2 ...
hey, maybe can consider the tri-ac also ?
For metal ... i'd really doubt the DS1 would cut it ... ~

if you'd like, you could pm me and test the modded mt2 at my place ~
