pedals

Pedals = efx

Pedals warp the frequency of your tone, to create stuff like distortion.

Also pedals can add nifty little efx into your playing, like for example...

Reverb (sounds like you're playing in a bathroom)
Flanger (that whirly sound =x)
Delay

Possibilities are endless.

In essence pedals just add more fun into your guitar playing by adding in effects and whatnots.

No - reverb is similar but distinct.

Reverb is designed to simulate the spatial ambience of different sized rooms. You can think of it as a kind of echo, but very very short ones. Think about being in a small room such as your bedroom - when you make noises the room responds in a certain way acoustically. Contrast this with being in a very large space such as a hall, church or catherdral. If you close your eyes you can definitely sense the spatial difference in size of the room just by the way sounds are reflected from the walls. The room 'sounds' bigger. The effect is very subtle Understand? :)

Delay is designed to make much less subtle noises than that.

oook... thx lots... haha... perhaps i shld get one soon...
I recommend a Delay before a Reverb.

For a newbie, the Delay makes a lot more 'wow-whizz-bang-weirdo' noises that let you know you are using an effect. The Reverb is very subtle and can leave a lot of people thinking 'I paid $200 for *this*?'...

hahaha... funny one... ok thx... but estimated cost??

haha... must work liao and save save save... too bad my wishlist is so long... neh neh... haiz...

I think on average a pedal costs, say, $200?

They range from a hundred to a couple of hundred, but if you save up 200 for each pedal you should be pretty safe.

Well, pedal prices vary widely depending on type and brand. In the Boss range for example, a Distortion DS-1 lists for $120 and you can get it for $75. A Digital Reverb RV-5 lists for $325 but you can get it for $210. A Digital Delay DD-6 lists for around $300 and available for $200.

There are obviously other brands. Danelectro make very cheap pedals for example.

Yup. Was referring to Boss. Thus bringing around $200 with you should be cool.

However, call me traditional or something, but for pedals, I only consider either Boss or Voodoo Labs.

I wonder why... =/

Biased, and personal preference :D

I feel DOD, Digitech, Maxon etc make great pedals as well.

Biased? Definitely.

Personal preference? Can't say. Never tried out any others.

But the Voodoo Labs Distortion pedal still got me hooked.

Remember the $300 tone knob, pooo?

Lol our days of terrorizing swee lee.

No more 300 dollar tone knob. Waste money man basket. The Voodoo Labs Distortion, the sparkle drive, is essential an overdrive clone of the ts9/808. Too many clones of that pedal out there man, the Route 66, the maxon 808. Chances are you're gonna love those alternatives too :D

Maxon 808.

Isnt that the old Ibanez, or something? I read somewhere Maxon pedals = Ibanez pedals. Design, wiring, everything except the branding now.

I wonder where I can get an 808. Maxon OR Ibanez.

Davis for the maxon, sweelee the ibanez(don't know if they still have any stock). They don't go cheap. Over 200+
