Pedalboard as hand carry in an airline?

Is there an issue with the airline management if I decided to hand carry my pedal board (i.e. Shark Pedalboard) instead of checking it in? Will I be questioned? I'm just concerned that since this Shark pedalboard is not a hard case, pedals may be crushed by other bags inside the Airplane's storage.

Any suggestions when traveling with lots of pedals?

Put it in a haversack as a carry-on and you should be fine. You might have to do a bit of explaining at the security scanner though.

^ yep. I've never carried a pedalboard on board but I have carried guitars on board.. On some airline carriers you can ask them to help you put it in the cloak compartment (I've had good experiences with SQ, JAL and Delta).. But some may not agree to do so.

Thanks guys for responding. Yah, I've tried once to bring my guitar as hand carry and the JetStar peeps were kind enough to put in somewhere more 'safe' ... though I'm concerned that the people who will scan the pedalboard might question me or worst, say that it's not allowed!
:o:eek:

Just wondering for those who were able to hand carry your guitars to planes onboard for SQ, JAL, Delta and even Jetstar. Isit from Singapore to your destination, or from the place where you are at (etc america or japan) flying back to Singapore. And do you even need to ask them at the check in counter if you are able to handcarry it back.

It's always safe to ask at the check-in counter, but be aware that things might change at the boarding gate. I fly with one of the above-mentioned airlines and I know for a FACT that according to regulations, musical instruments are not allowed to be checked-in which I think is really stupid unless it's a full flight or a small aircraft.

from my experience, Japan -> SG (JL/SQ), they asked me to check-in my gtr (in soft case) and they just tagged it as Fragile together with my luggage, I was uneasy during the whole flight hehe..strangely, I was able to handcarry my POD XT Live..

from SG -> other countries, using budget airlines, they usually allow guitars as handcarry, esp if in a softcase and/or if it acoustic..
