Pedal Talk/Suggestions

I own two faulty FAB pedals and a second-hand BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone. I'm planning to buy more pedals in order to motivate myself to play more. Therefore, I need some advice on the following effects:
- Overdrive
- Distortion
- Noise Gate/Terminator
- Flanger
- Chorus
- Phrase Shifter

Overdrive: I've shortlisted the Biyang OD-8, Subdecay Liquid Sunshine, and the Hardwire: CM-2 Tube Overdrive. Which is better? Or any other recommendations?

Distortion: I am also looking at Subdecay Blackstar and Biyang DS-8/9 for distortion. Which is better or any other recommendations?

Noise Gate: Beta Aivin NG-100.

The rest haven't decide. Do give recommendations.

For distortion, T-Rex Bloody Mary sounds nice to me too. As well as the MI Audio Crunch Box.

Is the Subdecay F-Bomb an overdrive pedal? It sounds really good for me.

I can vouch for the t-rex bloody mary cos i've tried and tested one. For the effects you listed, it'll be helpful if you can list a budget!

I play metal, alternative, rock etc. interested to pick up a bit of blues and jazz but that's the overdrive part. is there a difference between the fuzz pedal and overdrive pedal? someone care to explain.

budget is less than 250 per pedal.

wells...u can save up and get a 7th heaven from goose? then u'd be able to dial in distortion and overdrive...if i'm not wrong?

hey guys.
hope you can help out with this one.
first of all,im using an overdrive as my clean tone
its always turned on.
yes,dirty cleans.
what i need is an overdrive that is perfect for boosting my tonebone hot british.
in terms of tone,a lil touch of gain, transparency etc.
im looking at a timmy, zendrive, barber ltd.
they're all great overdrives,for me.
used a ts7,sparkle drive,gt-od (twice),bad monkey,ocd
but didnt really like them, except for the sparkle drive but had to sell it off.
suggest me anything.
tips,opinions,recommendations and whatnot.
thanks alot!
=)

Subdecay blackstar is a great overdrive which boldly ventures into distortion territory, it's horrible as a stand alone distortion if you're planning on metal though.

why not try an exotic bb preamp boost or the likes of it since u're looking at a little gain and not just a clean boost?

Can try the LovePedal Cot 50.. mine's always on.. IMO it has nice sound and great dynamics to it!

But sounds like you're looking for a boost pedal w some OD? BB preamp's great for that.. =)

i agree with you on that. sounds more like a fuzz as you up the gain.

For a distortion for metal i would recommend the EHX Metal Muff.

It actually is a very versatile pedal compared to the MT-2, and it does not sound as dry. The price is rather reasonable too. Do know you have to tweak it around to get the setting you want. Most people dont and begin to dislike with the excuse it sounds like a fuzz.

For the overdrive, regarding your options i would go with the biyang OD-8. Bang for buck. $100 for an overdrive pedal with 3 toggle switches along with 3 interchangeable chips

( JRC4558 <-- used in the TS-9 , TL072, and the NR12341313411514 * sorry i forgot. )

Making it hard to run out of options whenever you wanna toggle around with this pedal

Do note that this is a mild overdrive.^

Since your budget can stretch beyond the 200+ range, about 195 or less can get you some Barber products. Barber products are hand made, cheap, and really worth the money, take the Barber Direct Drive for example. If you tweak it enough, it can take you from subtle all the way to the sound provided by a hot rodded marshall cranked up.

If youre looking for a OD with rather high gain, you can get a 2nd hand MI Audio tubezone on soft, last i saw one was going for $230. Im talking about the 6 knob version which is more than just a OD in my opinion. It plays close to the distortion level, or to some, already hits that level.

Great OD,but finger print magnet, quite noisy and has the stock MESA sound.

High gain ODs^

Should I get a distortion pedal and overdrive pedal OR a distortion/overdrive pedal (one pedal)? If it's one pedal, I may settle for Subdecay Stupid Box. If it is two pedals, I'm not sure.

I'm looking to sell my MT-2 and to get a Guyatone MM-X Metal Monster. But I will still need to settle for a distortion pedal for rock etc, and an overdrive for blues and jazz(which i want to pick up). I think i may just settle for the T-Rex Bloody Mary.

As for fuzz, I am in love with the sound of the Subdecay F-Bomb!

Your reply is pretty confusing. Seemly your interested in 3 pedals Stupid box , Bloody mary and metal monster right? Firstly both Bloody mary and metal monster are METAL pedals so why do you want to get them both? I think you need to rephase your post what exactly are you asking? Anyway you should consider MI audio Crunchbox alot of distortion in this fella can do british flavoured rock to metal. Or if you want something really Heavy sounding great for Metallica kinda stuff try Sansamp GT2 to me its sounds more ballsy then bloody mary.

I detest the bloody mary. To me its bloody not worth the money, then again it depends what youre looking for.

If youre looking for a metal tone, most metal pedals tend to be stand alone.

Eg, EHX Metal Muff, TL-2 Hardwire etc..

Versatile distortion pedals : Radial Tonebone Hot British, Radial London Bones, MI Audio Crunch Box etc..

To be honest, there is no such thing as pedal for 'rock'. It just depends how you tweak the pedal.

My Metal Muff to alot of people, has the ' can of bees ' sound. Well today after a few experiments and an aid of a friend, that problem was solved.

Get a versatile pedal, Play around with it. Once youre affirmed that your pedal cannot reach the depths or highs you want, then its time for a diff pedal depending what you wanna achieve.

Most drive pedals are either high or low gain. Not meant for rock or etc.

for overdrive, SD-1 is a good option. it's cheap, and it's good. not few legendary guitar sounds were made using this yellow stomp box

I agree with mr potatoe bloody mary isnt as good as it cost. Definately not worth it just go listen to it at youtube from proguitarshop.
