pedal effects placement help!

I just started only to build my own analog rig and have scanned through pretty much of the threads about pedal placements here but im still confused. If i were not to run my effects through the effects loop, should my chain be in this manner?

Guitar> vol pedal> tuner> compressor> overdrive/distortion> tremolo/chrous> delay> reverb> amp

Is this correct?

yup. actually the placement of pedals depend on what sound type you want. a generall guide is that heavier gain pedals like distortion should go before overdrives. but your chain seems correct. thats the chain i use to, except that i dont have the tuner.

what volume pedal do you have? if its high impedance then u should put it like what u have specified, if it is low impedance you can place it right before the delay pedal so it becomes an overall volume control

which version do you have? the 250k? if it is, then you should be ok with your current placement. If i is the 25k, should place it before the delays.

My's the 25k so it will be Guitar> tuner> compressor> overdrive/distortion> tremolo/chrous> vol pedal> delay> reverb> amp?

Actually, volume pedal anywhere will achieve different effects. Vol pedal before a sensitive/dynamic OD/distortion can help you get that cool fade in from clean to dirty sound. Vol pedal before a delay will be useful if you do volume swells with lots of delay. Vol pedal right at the end will act like a master volume/gain control before your amp input.

Ah thanks for the info. Now let's say I'm gonna do a effects loop. Where should I place my tuner and vol pedal? Should they both be in the effects loop with the delay and tremolo or they should be with the overdrives?

given that your volume pedal is low impedance i guess you can get more out of it by using it as a master volume control, they should be in the effects loop too. I suggest you place it before the delay so you can still do some clean delay volume swells.

tuner should be right after the guitar so you can get the cleanest, strongest possible signal for tuning. What tuner are you using btw? if you are using a boss tuner, which is a buffered bypass pedal, you can also choose to place your volume pedal after this pedal in your signal chain. The same cannot be achieved if your tuner is a true bypass pedal

im using a tc poly tuner. So should i still place it in the effects loop? Or shall it be together with the overdrives?

its true bypass so i guess it will be best to place your volume pedal in the effects loop after the overdrives :D

you can still use your volume pot as a pre-overdrive volume control though ;P
