If you are up for tweaking, getting a wide range of low gain to high gain tones and a UNDERESTIMATED clean boost, i would recommend you to try an MI audio tubezone.

I've meddled with both the CB and TZ before. My opinion:-

The crunchbox is great for chopping rock rhythms. It is good enough but not as cool as the tube zone for solos.

The tube zone has great tones for solos. But it doesn't shine in the rhythm/chords section.

You might be right after all, Goose --> Shiny casing to compensate for the not so shiny chords. :mrgreen:
