Pearl Masters Ultracast Snare 6.5

Just tried out the above snare (6.5 depth) and really pleased with it. Indeed, the aluminum shell does give the warmth of a wood shell but yet, gives the cutting sound that wood lacks. This snare has a lot of body and the attack is great, yet plenty of warmth and sensitivity. There's no need to dampen it as it sounds best w/o. Medium tight tuning tension seems to give the most versatile sound. At 800 from sweelee, it's able to hold its own against the much more expensive wood snares from high end brands. The only downside is it's quite heavy as the shell is thick. So if you lug it around, that may be a challenge. But it's a small price to pay for a solid metal shell with an awesome sound.
