I DIY'd and installed a internal LG GCE-8526B CDRW drive but its only able to read, write & play audio files.

I've got the drivers updated and the PC runs on WinXP hme.

BUT it can't read any DATA or software files at all.
(... and i cant install the cubase prgm!)

Anyone has any pointers on what could be the problem?
Appreciate the help

Since it reads audio fine I'd suspect some low level settings. Check the BIOS (you know, those press DEL or F12 when booting up or something similar). Make sure the settings matches how you've physically wired it up (master or slave drive) and see if there are any settings there that are relevant since every BIOS is different.

Quite an odd problem that a lot of people seem to have but no solution to be found on the net...

"master or slave?"... sounds like something from Iron Maiden :)
tks... didnt think if i got them wires crossed but I'll give this a go.

never had that problem before, but does sound like a data cable to BIOS problem, if you got one of those PATAtoUSB cable try it out, or try change to a different PATA cable, bring the CDrom to another friend's desktop and try see if it's the same issue or easiest just buy a new one. if it's a new drive, get it replaced.
