Yes, I do. I also play here too. I'm not in Singapore most of the time but when I am here, I go to all the shows I can. Noticed how I mentioned that Singapore bands are much more talented? Bands like Rudra, Nafrat, Meza Virs ect. make Parkway Drive look like noobs.
I don't mean to be a "Troll" or whatever...but from someone who has been and lived in places like U.S. and such...Parkway Drive is really nothing compared to the local bands here...so I don't understand the big deal of Parkway Drive coming to Singapore when you can see better local bands any time.
I'm not being a death/black metal elitist either, even by metalcore standards Parkway Drive is petty boring and is just famous because of image, myspace, and appealing to a "scenexkid" crowd. Now, if it were Invokation of Nehek or With Passion I would be crapping my pants....(too bad they're dead)
Hun,
Rudra, Nafrat, Meza Virs, are all off a way different genre than what Parkway Drive delivers.
You cannot compare death metal (I'm speaking in terms of Nafrat, because I've only seen them perform, of all bands you listed) to metalcore or whatever genre you'd like to debate on because OBVIOUSLY, we ALL know that each genre deliver to a different kind of technicality input in their music, performance, crowd appeal and such like that. If you're in a band or is involved with a band, you'll know these kind of stuff, not every one will have to like your band anyways. (IDK your band, maybe I do, educate me).
If you're speaking metal, then yes, you MIGHT want to compare, but there are sub genres of metal that you like or might not like, and these kids here actually LIKE this genre. I've seen thread posts like these before, and there are people who go, "YOU PUT METAL TO SHAME BECAUSE YOU PUT <insert generic stereotype> INTO METAL!" (Note: I'm not saying that you said it), but I don't see anyone who actually put metal to shame (YET), because if it means more people listening to metal, no matter what sub genre, then why the heck not? Good things are meant to be shared, and it is up to the receiving end to like it or not.
Plus, you'll never find the bands you listed to be on the same stage with Parkway Drive anyways, because they all have different crowd to be put in the marketing/advertisement plan, organiser wise. Organisers usually understand what turns off the crowd, and what doesn't.
I'm saying that I understand your point of view, but the world (or this thread, rather) would be a nicer place if you kept your comparison to yourself, or just among your friends, and not publicly like this, only to get yourself much pissed off when you see the comments.
Trust me, I'm still a noob in the music scene, no matter what genre it is. And I wouldn't know how it feels like to be in a band, but I do know that each band would like to have their own appeal, be it with image of the band itself or the generic copy paste kids you have in the crowd or the sound of the band.
Don't like, don't go. Like, you go. Don't really like, just go, you might just go home as a fan. But if I were you, even if I don't like, I still go. To see what the hoo haa is about. Trust me, there are so many bands I have seen that I was never a fan of, and they're right now in my mp3 player.
But then again, like I said, I am a noob, and this is my two-cents worth. Or no cents. Whatever it is.
