i've repainted my guitar ....
Painting is the easiest part (excluding design) ....~!
Removing the varnish on most guitars would take really long if u dun have sanding tools ~
I've tried block sanding but dat take too long so ... just sanded it all off with 200 grit paper .... gotta know wat u're doing ... u might accidently sand off too much ... giving ur guitar a funny shape ...
change to a higher grit paper ard 400-600 when u've gone through the varnish ... u'll know when u've gone through the varnish, when u sand abit ... den can see wood ....
Now ... u gotta block sand the paint ....
u'll notice some faults in the wood ....
mine was made of alder , so ... quite abit of wood filler was used. Not allowing me stain and varnish to show the grain....
i'd advice adding a base coat .... but they dun come in sprays ... so ... guess u gotta paint it on... den sand to level ... (i didnt do this, should have though)
left to spray ur backgroung colour... and design ....
Varnish ....
i tried lacquer but ... it's not very good on paint ... maybe if u just wanted to stain ... it'd be okay ...
Now i've got a problem .... if my guitar gets knocked slightly ...(by a sharp edge) the paint comes off ... (just the small part ... luckily i painted it black .. filled the nicks with black marker.... hahaha)
i dun understand why ... coz i've put at least 7-9 coast of spray varnish ...
maybe someone could advice me on how stock guitars get such thick coats ?
