overdrive and distortion

i have a feeling a similar thread might already be lurking somewhere in the depths of history. if so, i dearly apologize. my searching skills must have let me down. anyway..

i'm confused about my od + dist in my chain. i've tried numerous times to interchange the two. as in, od first before dist and vice versa. i can't come up with a conclusion as to which i prefer. plus, the availability of so many ODs is also driving me mad i feel like buying them all and trying.

i'm currently using a digitech badmonkey placed after a ds-1. i play mostly punk/indie/alternative/rock stuff. sometimes i find myself using only the OD, and kicking in the ds-1 for heavier parts. is that weird?

maybe there's no definite answer to this question. probably preferential. but it'd be interesting to hear what the rest of your setups are like. perhaps it can shed some light on my problem.

thanks!

The chain a pedal does not make..

Think you need to look at your guitar as well as your amp first. Those have as big if not bigger impact on your tone and sound.. :)

Hmm.

Hey man, understand you dilemma. In your case, it depends on which pedla you like the most for its inherent drive properties. Another way to go is to find a booster pedal to addeither volume or gain to the two pedals you have currently.

You can always chat on msn no probs dude.

Hi freakyfir, actually yah there's no right and wrong in the order of pedals, just individual preference, so you got it right first time. :) cheers!

Yep. Just go with whatever sounds good to you.
I myself use a bad monkey as my main drive pedal, using my RAT 2 as a booster lol

Whatever sounds good to you will be good bro. It doesnt matter after or before. I am using BB preamp for the main drive and I use 2 booster as in DOD Classic Tube and Behringer Tube overdrive. Dod for bass and behringer for treble. Works fine for me. Sometimes u have to break the rules to get ur own tone.

Just my 2 cents

you don't need to use all pedals at all times.
I have an EQ pedal,I don't use it all the time..I have a MT-2,I only use it during heavier parts,it's really not weird...I rarely use my CE-2 also..it's not weird at all..it's all about fitting the pedals to music rather than making the music fit your pedals..

hope that made sense

I'm using a Behringer EQ...
this one http://www.behringer.com/EQ700/index.cfm?lang=ENG

it's a decent one, damn cheap as I only use it when I actually needs my volume to push through the other instruments and make weird sounds and shit..

urmm..the only down part of the pedal is that it's jack for the power adaptor or whatever it's called is at the side...near the input jack..

it's still good for me,if I push the volume up,I feel it's like an amp pushed to 18

awesome points raised, doods. all taken. i guess that leaves me to more experimentation and creativity.

so it's not weird to have a rig comprising of a few ODs and using different ones for different songs as i see fit right?

i have a feeling i might go crazy over ODs real soon. is that a common problem? gahaha.

hahaha. i tried. the animals, they somehow happen to look rectangular, stompable and have funny little knobs on them.

i wonder why.

aha. anyway thanks a bunch, guys. i need to play around more. find my own sweet spot (that didn't sound very right).

so what ODs and distortions are you using? what kinda sound are you getting from them?

to answer the question..I'm currently using MT-2 (unmodded)
the type of sound I get is a deep chugging sound..

it's kinda similar to Dimebag's guitar sound in Cemetary Gates..that kinda chugganation.
